Need help on rear axle bearings

I have a 65 GMC with Dana 44 rear axle on leaf springs

Ordered the right rear axle bearings from LMC but what I received was sealed bearings

What is in there is not a sealed bearing, it runs in rear end oil with separate seal and the bearing retainer ring looks different as well.

Anyone have any insight to this?

Thanks
Todd

Call a driveline specialist and see what they advise, they may still work, but may need the inner rubber seal removed to let oil access the bearing. I've always wanted my bearings lubed with the rear-end oil, I've never tried a sealed bearing?

Thanks, I really don't want to half way do it, hoping someone has info on where to get the exact bearings as replacements

Todd:
My 1965 GMC with Dana 44 uses sealed bearings. The axle shaft seal is inboard of the bearing. The bearing doesn't get oil from the differential. They are pressed onto the axle and don't have any retainer ring on them. Do you have some pictures of what you are working with?

Steve

I can post a pic later, took axles to a friend of mine at his shop to look at.

Mine has bearing retainer that is pressed on, then open bearing then a seal on outside under the plate. This is going from diff side out

Re: Need help on rear axle bearings

If you pull the bearings off they should have numbers. Maybe a local bearing house would have them. The retainer would probably come with the new bearing. Does that mean the axles do not use C clips to hold them in? We had a 63 Ford pickup that IIRC had the retainer on the axle and when the bearing failed the axle came out.

Re: Need help on rear axle bearings

As it turned out, I was not looking close.

The seal is inboard of bearing, just the new one does not look like the old

Same thing for bearing, the new sealed bearing does not look like the old

I just didn't know what I was looking at and because the replacement parts do not look just like the old, I thought I had something wrong.

Thanks for the replies
