Lowering issues

I ordered the early classics 4/6 drop with plan on running 15x8 front rally's and 15x10 on rear. I took it to the shop to get it all done and the spindles are hitting the wheels so they wont fit. Its not just a little its hitting a lot. I had to pull my 20/22s off my blazer and put on this truck. Now my blazer has a 4/6 drop and clears the rally's just fine. The truck looks great but I know probably sounds crazy but I want to run rally's on this truck. I called them they said they have never had a problem with there drop spindles hitting and right now I am just in limbo. anyone had this problem? I looked for 2" spindles because the shop said those 2 1/2 are to much. Any ideas?

Re: Lowering issues

The spindles *attach* to the lower control arms via the ball joint. How and where are they hitting?

Re: Lowering issues

I am going off what to shops told me. I guess it would be hitting the wheel. I know I couldn't turn with out it rubbing.

Re: Lowering issues

The rim is hitting the lower control arm. Common issue with 2.5" spindles and 15" wheels.

I trimmed mine so they would work"

Re: Lowering issues

A shop might not be willing to trim an A-arm though. You can try the 2" spindles, but depending on what wheels you have, it's not a 100% guarantee they will work either (but much more likely), but since you said they fit on your blazer (probably 2" spindles with 2" springs?) the 2" spindles will work. The 2.5" spindle is a somewhat recent thing. You can keep more of the stock geometry with more spindle drop (and people keep wanting to go lower.)

Re: Lowering issues

I've heard of this when using "dropped" stock a-arms.

Maybe that's why we see lowered 5 lug steel wheel trucks with front wheels that look way too wide, spaced out to clear the control arms from spacers.

Re: Lowering issues

I just received my BellTech lowering spindles, and this addendum came with it. It looks like this is a common problem with Rallye wheels (too bad, 'cuz that's what I wanted to use on mine).

The front wheels width looks wide because it is.
From the factory.
Drop spindles with 15" wheels with more than 3.5" of backspacing, will need the a-arms trimmed. Some drop spindles need a little grinding on the arm that the outer tie rod connects to.
It's all part of the process.
And the steel brake line at the caliper needs a slight tweak to clear the upper ball joint.
All things discussed on this forum in detail.

Re: Lowering issues

Have a look at this thread. These guys discussed larger rallye wheels. Maybe you consider going this route

Re: Lowering issues

I'm pretty sure you can use the 15x7" rally wheels (came on vans) with the 2.5 drop spindles.

I had this setup before and I liked the narrower wheels in front.

Good luck, Rg
