Project Started! Is my frame bent?

Started my project on my 68 shorted c10. Going to run full porterbuilt stage 3, 6.2ls3 4l75e drive train, Patina body. Same as everybody it seems right now... I have the truck all torn down to the frame and was getting ready to get sandblasted but noticed the frame looks a little tweaked. The truck doesnt show any signs of being in a major wreck but does have some bad body work done where it looks like it was dented in the back rear. (only downfall of the truck ) Also the firewall has separated from the cab floor on the passenger side. I have measure in a X pattern in the same spot and it is within a 1/8th of a inch. When I say it looks tweaked it looks like the back driver is sitting higher than the passenger. I will say that my jack stands are not perfectly level and it can be straighten by pick up on it. Is this normal? With porter built on the way I want to make damn sure its a straight frame before I go taking out cross members and installing.

Frame pictures ? The amount of damage to the right rear bed wouldn't suggest frame damage ,Get the frame level and start measuring . Adding the 6.0 and all that suspension would warrant beefing up the frame to carry the extra HP and torque .

Welcome to board from Maryland! I see you already have a helper too. A lot of times worn cab mount bushings will make it look like the frame is bent because the cab tends to sit lower on the drivers side.

Re: Project Started! Is my frame bent?

Welcome to the site, you did an X did you do one for just the bed holes? I say it is ok. Also the floor looks like the spot welds were left off from the factory. Drill some holes there I bet with some vice grips you can pull those panels together then plug weld from the front bottom and cure that problem

I think the roadster shop makes a very nice rolling chassis for about $10k

Re: Project Started! Is my frame bent?

From those pictures I doubt the frame is bent , if you are talking about differences in wheel well heights , many things can cause that ,old springs , and a hit may have tweaked where one of the bed crossmembers connects to the frame , shocks , exc , exc, exc

If you are talking cab heights , the old rubber cab mounts cause this all the time

Re: Project Started! Is my frame bent?

The passenger side of my fire wall was separated like that too. Mine was because of rust at the bottom seam where the firewall and floor plspot weld together. When the lower seam rusted out there was nothing keeping those side welds from breaking. Clamp it down and plug weld it back up.

Re: Project Started! Is my frame bent?

Did you find any extra spacers or holes on the body mounts? Any bumper mounting holes that had been ovalled or slotted? Your body lines in the photo look pretty good and the front bumper looks straight. If you didn't find anything out of the ordinary then it most likely is as good as it left the factory. Most body shops that are willing to ignore a bent frame are pretty sloppy with their methods of hiding the bent frame. You will see odd spacers and holes that have been torched out. Like my Burban. Congrats on scoring that nice slantnose 503 green truck.

Re: Project Started! Is my frame bent?

Why the porterbuilt , I could understand on an earlier i beam truck , these trucks handle so good , and have tons of aftermarket suspension stuff , are you looking for a "lay frame" truck ?

Since you have it bare, either take it to a frame shop, or check it for straightness yourself.
