Original firewall paint discolored

My firewall has oem paint on it and is discolored to a brown/dirty look. I have scrubbed to try and clean with no luck - has anyone refinished this paint? Is there a magical product or process that may revive it?

I used a Turtleway brand liquid rubbing compound and recovered the exterior paint on a 70 GMC. I thought we needed to repaint the truck before I did that.

However, you are wanting to preserve the factory numbers and info, so I would recommend he route of degreasers and work it in.......

Lots of work, but i think that's what it will be.

Maybe spray it with WD40, let it soak for a day or two, and it will cut it loose. I do that to clean my hands.......

It seems that your truck is all together, so cleaning the firewall will be tough, with the distributor, brake cylinder, steering column, heater box, etc. all in the way. And, not sure, but I think you want to save the factory chalk marks, etc. Challenging to say the least.

I pressure washed the inner fenders and firewall on my truck, and it made a substantial improvement. I made sure to keep as much water as possible away from anything electrical. IF you do this, then maybe Simple Green or a degreaser intended for food processing plants and restaurants would remove more discolouration. Ultimately, I think using a polishing compound is going to be required.
