ok everyone please input your opinion
i am thinking of putting 18's on all four corners . same size tires.just going on a 67 short stepside that is black with red interior.i know my opinion is all that matters but i dont want to be the laughing stock of a show. the con to the wheels is they are $3,000 for all four without tires.

Re: ok everyone please input your opinion
hmm. that's a lot of doe-ray-me for wheels. If they are 18 rallies, they look pretty nice. I'd only put wheels like that on a show truck personally. Since you said yours is black, I assume it's not yours in the pic. It makes me want to ask - is there anything else your truck needs? If it's the last step of a show truck build (or the first of many steps to come in a show truck build), then, by all means, those could be the crown jewel. If it's a driver - I'd pass (for that price). You'll be at about $4500 total in wheels/tires by the time you're done and you could buy a few of the trucks I've had for that price BUT, money may not be the object. If you're just asking about looks alone - I think they look nice. A pic of your truck would help with the opinions and someone on here might be able to do a little photoshop magic to give you a better, scaled, idea of exactly what they'd look like on your actual truck with tires.

Rally wheels belong on old camaro's and vans from the 1980's. My opinion.

Re: ok everyone please input your opinion
For $3-4 k you could buy another short bed truck that will appreciate in value , you'll loose 50 % on those wheels taking them out of the box . It's your truck do what you want . But a huge waste of $ in my opinion .your truck looks great with the wheels you already have , What comes to my mind is "What could you do extra for your wife/kids for Christmas" with that extra coin ?
Vanity is expensive and there comes a time no matter how much bank you have that maybe it's just not the right move ? |

Re: ok everyone please input your opinion
It looks better as is than it will look after spending $3k on oversized vintage-look wheels. The thing with oversized vintage-look wheels is they don't look vintage because they are oversized. I'd say either stay with the vintage/classic look or move into the future with what's available in larger diameters. But, to me, the best option is #3... leave it looking fantastic and take that money somewhere else.

I guess it is what you like. Everybody has their own taste. I like the old-school Raleys myself. Just a matter of choice. Whatever makes you happy.

Re: ok everyone please input your opinion
67short, I am with you. I love the look of of those wheels. I am jonesing for a set of the oversized rallies in 18". Not overly exaggerated but kind of like restomodding. I am having time justifying the price since my truck is nowhere near as nice as yours. My hope is that Detroit Steel Wheels will put into production the set that they recently did for StonerSpeedShop.

Re: ok everyone please input your opinion
Considering the other "hot rod" amendments done to your truck, the wheels you have now are perfect and the over-sized rallies don't work.
I personally prefer stock rallies trimmed out. |

Re: ok everyone please input your opinion
I do like the 18" truck ralleys. Pricey for me but not so much for others. Maybe you can get a better deal on them from the supplier as maybe they are not a big seller because of price. Or maybe a break on wheels and tires. I have seen some wheels in Dallas for near $3000 a piece. Hope they are insured.
I have a friend with 18"s on a 67 stepside and it is a nice driving truck. very stable in corners and a nice ride on highways.

Re: ok everyone please input your opinion
I have to agree with most everyone else. Your truck looks really good as is and I don't think these wheels are going to make it look any better or worse, just different. I think these wheels do look good, but I think they look best on a restomod 4x4 application like this truck.
They also look really good on a dropped truck. Anyway, that's just my opinion and it's not worth any more than I paid for it (which was nothing).

You have a very nice truck as is. My opinion is to put the $3K into something else.

Re: ok everyone please input your opinion
Since you asked, in my opinion those over sized truck rallys look awful. They are so out of proportion looking. Your truck looks great as it is.

Re: ok everyone please input your opinion
Once you get over 15" the "Vintage Look" is history. One pot hole as there are plenty in Maryland will trash one of the 18's with 2" sidewalls on the tires. Anyone who thinks you will get a good ride from those tires may have just smoked something.

Big wheels on these old trucks look odd and make my stomach hurt.
)bone( I would install 15" rallys if you want those.

Re: ok everyone please input your opinion
My opinion:
Leave the existing wheels on it. Those are very desirable ( Coy and Boss make similar wheels that are very popular ). ~4000 bucks can go a long way toward other things you may want to do, things that likely would give far more bang for you dollar ( engine mods, tranny or diff mods, interior upgrades, Vintage Air, Train horn, air bags, etc. ). -klb

Re: ok everyone please input your opinion
I think the truck looks a lot better as it sits now than it would with oversized rally wheels. The rally wheels just don't look right that big, and the ones you have on there now make the truck stand out.

Re: ok everyone please input your opinion
Yea, the cost is too crazy for those wheels, I'd say. I do like the style of them thought.
An alternative at 1/2 the price are the US Mags "Rambler" style wheel, which suits our trucks well. http://us-mags.com/rambler-u111-w-6133.htm Or, go crazy and spend that money. Photoshop version of upsizing truck rally wheels:

I agree with majority - your current rims look great! Spend that money elsewhere!
