Water temp sender question (location)

One of my next projects is to reconnect a few of my dash gauges that are not being used in lieu of an under dash set that I want to eliminate. My water temp sender is coming from the passenger side of the block with what looks like a coil covered line that actually passes water to the gauge (my speculation). I've read the threads on the best sender to get - can anyone tell me which is better, or will fit a proper wired sensor - the manifold or this block location? Thank you, Ned

If it is a stock engine check on the drivers side head between #1 & 3 exhaust ports to see if the original sender is there.

The coil covered line does not pass coolant to the gauge. It is a Bourdon tube that is filled with a special fluid that is expanded by the engine temp and activates the mechanical gauge.

Re: Water temp sender question (location)

Dude my 70 has 2 senders, one in each head, and they are both hooked up??? I haven't checked to see which one works for the gauge (gauge works fine).

Thanks for the help on this, guys - and to learn about that temp line. I will have to look when I get home, as I am pretty curious now.
