Vin tag

Huge problem. I took off my vin tag abut ten years ago, started and finished restoration. Now I can't find the tag, any ideas on how to reproduce?

Re: Vin tag

That is a huge problem. In most states its illegal to remove the VIN plate. You may end up having to buy another truck the same year and class just to get a good VIN and title. Good luck.

Re: Vin tag

Totally depends on your State.

I'd call Pennsylvania DMV/DOT and ask.

In Texas, after a vehicle inspection, they'd likely issue a Stated issued VIN

I'd be cautious about calling DMV/DOT and asking ..... I might be a lil' paranoid, but I'd investigate my options before I confessed.

Re: Vin tag

I googled "missing VIN tag PA" and it doesn't seem like too difficult a process.

Re: Vin tag

As long as you have a clear title on your name and a vin remains SOMEwhere (SPID or frame) it should be able to be worked out. Please tell me it has its original frame? Anyway, frame and SPID are not official, but they help your care, along with the title. This should be a lesson to others as well - just don't do it. Mask it off.

Re: Vin tag

Well, I hope this works out with minimal bureaucratic BS. If your life is anything like mine, the VIN tag will show up, after you've gone through all the hoops.

How about showing us some pics of the truck...

Re: Vin tag

IF you do find it, then your next issue will be finding the correct rosette rivets to attach it with. Good luck with that!

Re: Vin tag

That's a fine looking youngster you've got there, I'm thinking he's as proud of the restoration as you. He didn't leave those black marks did he?
The VIN tag will show up I'm sure.

Re: Vin tag

Applying logic and common sense often fails in bureaucratic endeavors like this, but you'd think a couple of stamped VINs, like the frame, combined with the SPID and a previous registration would make it pretty trivial for the State Patrol to establish that's the same truck and re-issue something.

I am sure your tags will turn up , relax and it will come to you were you put them ,Im sure you put them in a safe place , just not the usual spot

And about the rivits, just google or go to E-bay plenty of original Gm rivits are for sale they are expensive but they are the real deal 30 - 45 a pair is what they seem to go for these days .

Re: Vin tag

Guys, please remember that advising on rosettes/ switching cabs etc is walking a fine line. In most states tampering with a vin tag at all is illegal. It happens a lot with restoring, however it is illegal and discussion of such is not allowed.
Thanks
