Aftermarket gauges in stock instrument panel

Saw this from Eastwood's "how to" series, that shows how to replace the idiot lights with gauges.

I'd like to try this, but upon a closer look at the instrument panel out of my '62 C10, I see there's very little space between the face plate and the back of the lens (about 1/8"). This means my set of Auto Meter gauges won't fit, as the bezels stick out 3/8". So I'm looking for gauges that fit as low as possible onto the face plate, with 1/8" or less of bezel thickness. Any suggestions?

Re: Aftermarket gauges in stock instrument panel

Hello RBW,
This is what I have done with mine, to have a "stock" look but with gauges.
Purchased a 72 cluster and took the gauges from that.

An update since this thread is that the Fuel sender broke and I replaced it with a cheap aftermarket sender and gauge. I disassebled the fuel gauge I purchased and it was an easy fit when the "outer shell" was gone.

Re: Aftermarket gauges in stock instrument panel

You need gauges such as the Auto Meter Traditional, the Z Series or Stewart Warner Classic gauges. Those as well as other styles have shallower bezels.
