1967-72 C-10 rising in value
I don't necessarily agree with the article's stated value of a 67 in good condition; but I do like that our trucks are recognized as rising in value.

I don't. I like them as a part of my life and nothing to do with money. Investors can take their money elsewhere and leave these trucks to those who cherish them...especially the working man they were built for in the first place. Also would be nice for young people to be able to enjoy what I always have, an affordable simple vehicle.

I agree Jesse. I started collecting and restoring back in the 80's. I remember seeing someone pay $25K in cash for a short bed bucket seat truck at the annual auction at Charlotte motor speedway back in 87 or 88. It does suck that they are rapidly getting so expensive that even unrestored or not so nice examples are several thousand dollars Tim. Its also unfortunate that its more profitable to part them out than to restore them in some cases.

I'm with Special-K. The market is getting too steep for the people who really love these trucks because "collectors" have discovered them and everyone who has one sitting around thinks they're selling at a Barret-Jackson auction.
To me it boils down to the question of whether I'd rather have a truck other people think is valuable or would I like my children to be able to get into my hobby. |

I think all of us on this forum know more about the C10s and their value than the hack who wrote that article.
In our society, everything has become an "investment". House prices have skyrocketed around here so that young people can no longer afford a house, and at parties, the number one topic of conversation is real estate values. A Canadian painting recently sold for several million dollars. When I was in my 20s, I could have bought it, but no longer--the collectors have all those paintings. And so it is with our trucks. I must admit that I like the thought that my 69 will not go down in value while I own it, but as has been pointed out, even rusty old hulks are going for a few thousand now, so young guys who'd like a nice, simple hobby vehicle can't afford them. What are we supposed to do -- go buy old International Pickups?

That's the thing, it's not just these trucks. They have been hot since day-1 anyway. I know, I was there. But it's anything old now. I have so many "other than GM Truck" vehicles I always wanted and there's not one getting overlooked. I mean grandma's 4dr is worth something now. Station wagons have been hot forever, too. There's this about a '67 Rambler 4dr I see sitting for sale I've been curious about. I haven't looked at how much, yet. This thing looks like the librarian's car. No frills, not even the fancy Rambler, but looks like it would have in '67. How cool would that be on the Hot Rod Power Tour pro touring style?? But they probably want what I'd like to pay for an SS396!

Even with these trucks, the longbeds are the "4 doors" of the truck world and their prices are increasing right along with the shortbeds. Forget about finding an affordable blazer in ANY condition.

That article used figures from Hagarty so the prices are exaggerated at best , there are still tons of these trucks around to be bought cheap but it's not gonna be down at the classic car store , consider the costs and time to rebuild one , Then consider 98% of the buyers out there don't want to fix anything ,they just want to turn the key and drive . 99% of the kids of today want brand new shiny Honda's
When you look at ebay there are more than a few classic car dealers listing these old trucks in the $25,000.00 range and many are just cleaned up Car lot specials waiting for the next soccer mom to plunk down the cash for her son Biff . Quite honestly there's more money in buying junk trucks and restoring titled cabs to ready to paint condition in a few weeks ,Selling them and parting out the rest of the truck .Body shop rates are soaring , finding a real restoration shop gets harder everyday and there rates can get crazy .good used parts will continue to climb and everyday more get crushed /totaled /or end up as parts . A nice titled cab is all you need today , everything else can be bought aftermarket to build whatever suits you . The prices will continue to rise , Be glad you already have yours ! What would be really interesting is knowing the #of 67-72's still on the road ? I'm still buying 67 model trucks and cabs when I find them cheap . This is exactly why my 67 c20 Custom Camper CST will stay a c20 and in my family's possesion. Not for the monetary value, but the working on an old truck on Sunday with my kids value. Pretty soon, my lwb will actually be rare thanks to guys cutting them up. I do want a swb, and have a line on one. But I won't cut up my lwb, that's for sure... Not that there is anything wrong with that...

On the Facebook group there was a 70 blazer for sale. It was severely rotted out, missing parts, non running. $3500 price tag.

Although I have dabbled in old cars in the past, I'm pretty new to the C10 truck "scene". I can tell you, I didn't buy mine for an investment piece. I was looking for a good, solid truck that could do some mild towing, and that I could work on myself. My wife and I looked at prices on some used later model stuff, and we quickly learned that our budget would buy a high mileage, pile of junk ten year old truck. So, we started looking at older trucks, and a friend offered up his '69 long bed for reasonable money. After talking it over, we realized that this truck was one that we could buy, work on ourselves, and have a reliable, great looking truck that would cost far less and be easier to operate and maintain than a later model, high mileage piece. Of course, as these things go, after buying the truck, I fell in love with it, and have been eaten alive by the '67-'72 bug. They are such neat pieces, with so many options, so many different color and interior combinations....and so many ways to modify them and make them your own.....it's no wonder to me that investors see them as a value in the market. I do hope that they don't end up like Camaros and Corvettes, as I don't feel like this '69 is gonna be my last one!

Just wanted to come back to this thread and say that although I recognize the enthusiasm for the shortbeds, I prefer the longbox trucks, always have. And, as Tquillen mentioned, the colours and two-tone combinations on the 67-72s are really outstanding, and probably a good part of the reason for the increase in value.

I didn't buy mine for an investment. I bought it because I needed a truck. I enjoy driving it and wouldn't sell it, even if they offered me a lot more than what I have into it. I have noticed the prices jumped considerably in my area in just the last year.

When I graduated from High School I could not afford a BB 396 due to insurance - I can now afford the insurance but can't afford a BB 396 car so instead - I have a BB 402 70cst ... I agree I would prefer these trucks to keep in the affordable price range for the common working man for who these trucks were built for.
