serpentine belt
might sound a little silly to you guys, but, I need to find a Serpentine belt for my 2001 ls motor out of a Suburban.... I need one that will eliminate the power steering pump, do any of you guys have an idea of what I can use? The reason I am asking, I built a test stand, and don't want to run the pump, mainly because I don't want to hook up a gear box...
Thanks |

Re: serpentine belt
Just use a fabric measuring tape or a string (and measure it) to figure out what length belt you need. Then look up a part number for that length belt in a 6 rib. Should be pretty easy.

Re: serpentine belt
Go to the Gates website and look at the belt sizing charts. They give you the part # for any length belt. I usually take the stock size, and then depending on the changes, buy a few part #'s either direction from my local Napa, and return what I don't use.

Re: serpentine belt
Gut the power steering pump insides and reinstall it with a little fluid in it and use the stock belt?? Pump cant make pressure or move fluid around without vanes, etc. Plug the outlet and return ports??

Re: serpentine belt
Hello Derek. To delete the power steering I bought a bracket which rerouted the belt so that the power steering pulley was no longer used. Duty dingo sells this part. I'll posted a pic when I get a chance.
