Seat Options

Hey guys, I'm looking for seat options on my '97 Silverado.
My driver seat (60-40 bench) is starting to wear and my left
butt cheek is really feeling it. I've been told by a shop that
my style of seats cannot be re-upholstered. Anyone else run
into this? Seems like any used seats that I come across are in
a similar condition. Any ideas?

Re: Seat Options

I had a 94 bench recovered and I know some other guys have too. Check this thread
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=511232

If a bench can be I don't know why a 40/60 couldn't be (the shop told me they probably lost money on mine, but they did a good job.) They had to steam the old cover to get it off without tearing up the foam.

Good luck, Rg

Re: Seat Options

I was told that my 40/60 seat was electronically welded ( The seam ) form one shop and couldn't be welded back ??/ I also talked to another upholster that said yes it was plastic welded to the foam but he indicated that it could possible be sewn at the seam ( possibly ) Never as of yet had it done ??/

Re: Seat Options

Thanks for the feedback guys. I was told the same thing about the seams being electronically welded in order for GM to save money. I am going to bring my truck into another local shop tomorrow and see what they say.

Re: Seat Options

They might not be able to find the correct fabric. The fabric also has some thin foam attached to it. A good shop will be able to make new covers for them. They might be pricey, and it might not look like it came from the factory, but it can be done.

Cloth or leather? The cloth holds up pretty good. In this area, there are still nice used ones out there.

Re: Seat Options

After talking to a couple of shops, found a guy (Bill) that not only has a good reputation but was the ONLY ONE that called around to his vendors and found some of the matching original cloth material. The other shops all said these seats cannot be recovered. Bill will be recovering my seats Monday.
Again, thanks for the input guys.

Re: Seat Options

First let me apologize guys. I did not take a before pic. BUT, I found one on line that looks exactly like mine did. So that is the one I'll post. Here is the actual after pic.
Bill was not cheap. Re-upholstered the bottoms only with matching materials for $504. Took him 6 hours. Seat looks awesome and feels even better. No longer do I sit lopsided feeling a chunk of metal prodding my left butt cheek.

Looks great! Good to know they CAN be redone regardless of all the "can't do it!" shops
