Pics K10s with 15x6 Rims and Larger Tires

Just trying to get a feel for the "look" before I go down the road of original sized rims and tires. Would like to see what the largest tire (both diameter and width) I could put on these rims would be and how it would look. Assume stock ride height, want a proportional look I guess you might say.

Thanks, Dave.

With a 6" rim, I think a 30x9.50x15 would be the largest.

This is on a truck I was thinking of buying. It's a 32/12.5/15 but I'm not certain the wheels are stock. They look like the stock rallies.

Re: Pics K10s with 15x6 Rims and Larger Tires

Rally wheels weren't ever stock on 67-72 trucks.

Could be wrong but I don't think rally wheels came in a 6" either...

In any case, definitely don't run 12"-wide tires on a 6" rim. I'd guess that rally in the photo is 8-10" if that's a 12" tire.

OP, you might know all this but just wanted to clarify. EDIT: Also, OP, you should be able to squeeze 33" tires into a stock-height truck, assuming your springs aren't super-saggy... I don't know whether anyone manufactures tires in a 33" size narrow enough to work on your 6" rim though. I'm almost certain I've seen 10.5" tires on 6" rims, although they look pretty "bulgy", not ideal. 33x10.5 R15 is getting difficult to find anyway.

Re: Pics K10s with 15x6 Rims and Larger Tires

15x6 is tough. 235/75r15 is the best fit, but that is a 28" tire. Our minds nowadays are trained to think that's too small a tire for a 4x4. If you really like that look, I'd see if you can find a plain 16" 6lug steel wheel. That leaves you with the option of a 235/85/16 which is a nice 31-32" tire.

Didn't mean to post any misleading info - those are actually 32/11.5/15 and by stock I meant factory, not for that year but not aftermarket - I could be wrong though. I spoke to a couple of folks over email and phone when I was considering buying that truck and they didn't seem to know exactly what the specs were. They had it advertised as "mild lift with 35s" and you can see right there in the picture, if you zoom in, that they are 32"s.

Re: Pics K10s with 15x6 Rims and Larger Tires

No worries. Just didn't want confusion to set in on that one!

OP, I ended up going with 15x8 steelies (stock-look wheels) because I wanted to run larger tires than ideal on 6" rims. If you're changing the tires from the tiny stockers anyway, it isn't as if the truck is totally original, after all - so changing the rims to wider ones that look the same as stock made sense to me. I'm running 32x11.5 R15 on 15x8 rims:

Re: Pics K10s with 15x6 Rims and Larger Tires

Thanks guys, appreciate the feedback. Especially helpful to do some thinking while here in the middle of the Sahara! I guess I keep coming back to the 15X8 look after seeing Joeydurango's truck. Perhaps 15 x 8s with 31" tires would be the optimal fit for stock ride height....

I know you were looking for 15's but I'm running 16 x6 rims with a 235 85r16 tire which is like 31.5 in.tall to give you an idea

I don't have a recent pic handy, but I run 31" (LT295-75R15) on the stock 6". Have had them for years, no tire troubles.

Re: Pics K10s with 15x6 Rims and Larger Tires

Thanks everyone for your input again here. I've been hemming and hawing on this for some time but I really like the look of the blue truck as well the green one with the 16" rims. No doubt I will go with hubcaps as I like the look. I'm really leaning towards the 16" look, wheels aren't as deep but you've got the beefier tires/rims on it which fill the large wheel wells better than the 15-6" with smaller tires. I will probably go with this look if I can find some 16 x 6 6-lugs. If not then for sure the CUCV look. I think my 50th Anniv Shortbed would look good with white hubcaps or even the others even though it won't be original.... can always pop them off if needed.... Many thanks once again. Dave.
