Super tailgate handle cover
I have a nice polished SS tailgate handle cover to install on my truck. Is there a trick to slip this on? Does it somehow "pop" on? It's aftermarket, but looks great. If I force it, the paint under will be messed up. I can slip it on about 1", but then it gets very tight. Is it as simply as tapping firmly to force it, and touching up the edge if the paint get scratched, or should I tweak the cover to make it looser?

Re: Super tailgate handle cover
Where did you buy it? I have been looking for one for a while.

Classicheartbeat.com
Around $30 plus shipping. Nice, solid piece. Should last forever when I get it on. |

Re: Super tailgate handle cover
I've installed both OEM and the repro piece that Wes sells (which is better than OEM IMO). The OEM piece can be snapped into place by aligning the bottom across the handle then pressing the top into place. With Wes's piece, which is thicker (stiffer) I aligned one end top to bottom then tapped it on with a rubber mallet across the handle one side to the other. Not sure if I've installed correctly but these techniques worked for me. You'll get paint scratches but just leave the cover in place (don't peek).

Re: Super tailgate handle cover
Yes, Wes said you slide it from one side to the other and that it's a tight fit. The quality is excellent. I guess I'll start from one side, and touch up that side when I get it on and centered.
