UXDesigner's 1967 C10 - The Keeper
Well folks, it took only 7 months after selling my previous build to get back in the game. I'm more motivated than ever and looking forward to building a truck that's a "keeper" based on what I learned from the previous build and all of you! A bit delayed on the progress so I'll start with a quick summary to get us to where the build stands to date.

Re: UXDesigner's 1967 C10 - The Keeper
Researched many color combos for hours but ultimately decided on a pearl red and pearl white two tone. Its a classic paint scheme but I wanted to mix it up a bit with the pearl white as the accent and no white top.

Re: UXDesigner's 1967 C10 - The Keeper
I had great success with the CPP's products on my last build so I went ahead and used the same. I upgraded to the headers instead of the TBSS manifolds and I'm really happy I did. Clearance is excellent and the sliders make the install super simple with the 4L60e.

Re: UXDesigner's 1967 C10 - The Keeper
For the fuel system I decided on the Aeromotive 18688 Phantom 340 Fuel Pump System. It's a bit more expensive than the typical external pump setup but the amount of time I saved alone was worth it. The truck already had the aluminum fuel tank relocated to the rear so it was as simple as cutting the hole (template provided) dropping it in and running the wires and fuel lines. For the fuel lines I kept it simple. I once again used the Russel Pro Classic braided fuel line, AN fittings at every connection and a stock fuel filter on the frame rail.

Re: UXDesigner's 1967 C10 - The Keeper
The fuel pedal was a challenge, the engine I picked up did not come with the TAC or the fuel pedal so I searched around and ended up finding one on ebay. The listing even included the bracket which made the really easy. If you plan on doing a DBW fuel pedal, make sure you get the bracket. Only requires a simple bend on the lower tab of the bracket to match the cab floor angle, a few spacers (i used screw nuts) and drilling the new holes in the firewall and floor.

Re: UXDesigner's 1967 C10 - The Keeper
The truck came with a very nice Flaming River tilt column and the power steering conversion was complete and fully functional. I didn't want to mess with converting to a column shift so I went with a new short 4L60e shifter kit and I'm really happy with it. I still need to weld up the hole for the aftermarket emergency brake that I don't plan on using.

Re: UXDesigner's 1967 C10 - The Keeper
I did not think the LS would run that smooth without the MAF hooked up.
Did you have the O2 hooked up? Aluminum heads heat up pertty fast, did you have any water in the block?

Re: UXDesigner's 1967 C10 - The Keeper
I was also surprised how smooth it ran, I did have the O2's hooked up so that certainly helped. Good call on the temp, I only ran it for a bit but you are correct.

Stock auto transmission cooling lines snap right into the radiator with these adapters, Simple install, lines only needed a couple of bends.

Re: UXDesigner's 1967 C10 - The Keeper
The long process of sanding, welding and body work begins. Looks like the PO sprayed paint directly on new reproduction metal without primer. Paint literally peeled off in chunks with compressed air.

Re: UXDesigner's 1967 C10 - The Keeper
Like Larry said, looks like a great project! It is better the second time around, isn't it?
I thought I had heard of Rocklin; I have family in Roseville! Rode the motorcycle out there two years ago. Plan to do that same trip in the '68 when I get it done. Hopefully August 2018 will be the time frame. When I get out that way maybe I can catch you at a cruise in. Subscribing to your thread to watch and maybe learn something from you. The more ideas the merrier. |

Re: UXDesigner's 1967 C10 - The Keeper
Well the good thing about that kind of peel is that it's less troublesome on the sanding joints lol

Re: UXDesigner's 1967 C10 - The Keeper
Started cleaning up the firewall and front frame. Worked on getting the wire fuel pedal grommet hole correctly sized. Plan on epoxy priming the firewall soon to get the engine back in and space back in the garage to get paint started.
