Way back in 1970 when I graduated from High School all I wanted to buy was a Blue 1970 396 Chevelle Super Sport. But sadly in those days I couldn't afford the insurance.

Fast forward ...

Now I can afford the insurance on a BB Chevelle SS but I cant afford the price of the car itself.

So in a way I have a poor man's BB SS in a 1970 BB CST Pick Up.

Now you know -- that some things don't change.

I can relate to that. I had a 71 roadrunner. Four speed 391 rear. Big block 383. There's no way I could buy that car now. That's why am building the truck I have. But I'm sure I'm going to like it. It will still have the Hurst shifter. And a four speed. But not the pistol grip. LOL. Although I think I could put one on it.

Im a Chevelle guy too ,have my wife's 72 Malibu vert and a 72 El Camino SS but I love my trucks more .Your truck is as nice as any Chevelle .

Great, and very positive way to look at it. And BTW, I love the colour combination on that CST, a really nice ride.

Heck yeah, you have your muscle truck now. A big block CST is the Super Sport of trucks.

I had a similar upbringing. At a young age I fell in love with Chevelles. An older lady at my church had a 1972 Malibu 350. Mulsanne Blue with a white vinyl top. I saw it every Sunday morning walking in and out of Mass.

A couple years go by. Right when I was turning 16, a buddy a two years older than me was selling his 1972 to fund his college education. I had to buy it and I did.

Later, while still in possession of my 72, I took a job at a local service station. I got to work on the one I saw at church every Sunday. It was still factory original with 11,xxx miles on the clock. It still had factory air in the tires! This was the 1987 - 1989 time frame. Today we'd call that car a survivor.

I offered everything I had - which wasn't much as I was at this time in college. I never did get my hands on that car - other than to drive it to her house after an oil change (a service small service stations did back then).

Time went on. In the late 80s I left that job but I never let my car go. I loved the hard top but I always wanted a rag top. When I found one in the thrifties (before craigslist there was the "thrifty" section in the newspaper where you placed your used car ad) I picked it up and luckily was able to manage to keep the hard top.

THEN the truck came along. Its been REALLY tough the last 8 years but I'm still hanging in there with all three.

In 1989 I found a 1969 Road Runner Convertible that was an unmolested all original car. It had 2 fender tags of options and was yellow with a black buckets and console interior and had the 383 and 4 speed. I ws smart a** and got the got the seller down from 16,500 to 14,500 and wanted to pay 14,000 so I walked. I came to my senses a couple weeks later I decided I'd pay the 14,500 and called the seller and he gleefully couldn't wait to tell me he had sold and got 16,000 for it. I would still have that car if I had bought it then and like DeWayne and today not only could not afford it but try to find one.

If I still had all the cars that I have owned in my life I could retire.
My first car was a blue 69 RoadRunner, I bought it from a cousin and it was like new. I had several mopars, a 69 Olds 442, 71 Chevelle and too many more to list.
I could buy them cheap because gas had gone from $0.35 to $1.00 a gallon and no one wanted them.
I sold my RoadRunner because I wanted a truck, lol. I have an old truck now but I'll never have another RoadRunner.
One think I can say is I drove the crap out of a 69 RoadRunner. Most people would never drive one today like I did back then.

I haven't owned a car since '96, I think. That was a '63 Riviera. I sold it to get money to finish a truck I was building. It wasn't getting driven much and I figured I could always get another one. Plus, for a fair weather-only vehicle I'd rather have a convertible. At this point in my life I can't see tying up what it would take to get into any of my dream cars

I was 17 and had too many wild friends. The fact that I'm sitting here typing this is proof there is a God. The guy I sold it to totaled it two weeks later.
