the option sheet on the inside of the glove box shows

V43 Rear Step Bumper Equi

I have one but Idont' know if it is the original. Does anyone have a pic of this optional bumper?

According to my vin, my truck came with a inline 6. Is there anyway to tell what size it was? I would like to go back to original if I can. What transmission would bolt up to that engine?

from what I have seen the bumpers were installed at the dealer and they all look different. that would be one of the large heavy fabricated type of bumpers.

check out the link below which lists standard and optional items. if an engine size is not listed on your spid then it would be the standard option.

Welcome to the website....fellow Canucker.
The standard 6 cylinder engine your truck would have been a 250 C.I and the standard rear axle you would have gotten with that stock combo would have been a 3:73 / 1 ratio.
As for the bumper....like 68 Bowtie says there were several styles and it might have been a option call out then dealer installed at delivery...who knows with GM in those days on the trucks...lol.
As for transmission almost all GM automatics will bolt up to the 250 ci/6 cylinder including 2 speed powerglides, turbo 350, a turbo 400 and the newer 700 series. The bolt pattern on the engines and transmissions was very generic.
The only thing you have to spend time solving is the right starter, torque converter and ring gear.
If you get a chance...post up a pic of the 'SPID' spec sheet in your glove box and you will get a boatload full of info from the very knowledgeable group here!

The factory provided 67-71 step bumpers were made of c-channel with rounded corners and center inset for tag and plate for hitch ball. Diamond plate welded on top and bent up at the bed. I don't see many on Stepsides, but they are the same as Fleetsides in a mini version. I couldn't find a picture in my photos
