Replacing Spindles - Lower Control Arm Issue

I'm putting 2.5" drop spindles and disc brakes on my son's '63 C10...

I've got the old drum brakes off. I've removed the 2 castle nuts from the spindle as well as removed the shock...

I have a jack under the lower control arm.

My problem is this.. i can't get the lower control arm to free up and 'drop'. I've tried using my tie rod separator by prying it in and it still won't drop.

Any advice?

Thanks

Leave the nuts on it with about a 1/4" gap top and bottom. Set the frame on a jack stand and let the pressure off the lower control arm. Then hit the spindle with a big hammer and it all will come right apart. Let the spring do a lot of the work. Then take the weight with the jack.

Loosen the Castle nut but do not remove it. Whack the top of the castle nut,
You will here it pop and the castle nut will stop it from coming apart.

do what pgsigns told you to do hit the spindle on the side where the ball joint go's threw it if you start beating on the castle nut you will tear up your ball joint threads

Re: Replacing Spindles - Lower Control Arm Issue

I have tried, and tried this method on BOTH sides and neither will pop off.

I've done this before on my '57 Belair and it worked great. I have no idea why this isn't working.

I have no clue how to get these damn spindles off. Frustrated.

I had the same issue with my right side. I went to HARBOR FREIGHT
and bought this :

it came out with a bang ! ( and yes leave the castle nut on !)
