Whats your truck plans for 2017

Because I live in the cold and snow belt and only use my truck from April till October tonight I made a list of what I wanted to do with/to it during the 2017 season. I made a list of 17 things for 2017 ( I actually have about 35 total things as the budget allows) that I want to do with the truck. So post up your plans for 2017 on what you want to do to/with your truck in the coming year and lets try to keep it to about your top 5 things. By the way you folks in the warm climes are very lucky being able to drive and enjoy your trucks year round. Happy New Year everyone.

My top things are:

1. Install the new Booster/Master I bought from Frank at Pickemup.
2. Do the brighter headlight relay upgrade.
3. Replace ( I have the part ) my broken drivers door vent window.
4. Install LED Bulbs in my Dash
5. Take my original radio and get it repaired so it works properly.
6. Lastly cause I only put 100 miles on it last year, drive ,drive, drive it !!!!

Re: Whats your truck plans for 2017

This is a tough question. Not because I don't have some good ideas for my 69, but because I'm torn between leaving it all original, and making some simple changes to make it more like MY truck.

Changing out the factory step bumper for the chrome bumper would be top of the list, followed by finding a good set of 6 bolt truck rally wheels (15 by 8) for starters.

I'd also like to put in the factory-style tach, and convert to power steering.

Re: Whats your truck plans for 2017

I retire on Friday, so by spring I should have the body off, and then I'll dive into to undercarriage. The cab is near ready to pull anyway. From there the restoration begins. The frame should be ready for a new body by year end.

That said, $#it has really hit the fan this week. This year hasn't ended on a good note. As they say, $#it happens.

My Top five things on a long list of to-do's for 2017;

1. Clean, Media blast and POR15 every single frame/chassis part there is.
2. Refurbish/rebuild and assemble rear suspension, diff. and brakes (sit it on it's rear wheels again)
3. Refurbish/rebuild and assemble front suspension, steering, brakes (sit it on it's front wheels again)
4. Rebuild transmission (ready for install)
5. Start collecting engine parts for it's rebuild (goal to run again Spring 2018 - at latest)

I know your truck is very very original but its your truck so do what works for you. Mine is /was very original as well but I've done some tweaking ( that suits me ) and here are some pics to show you how much a little chrome and different wheel covers can change a truck without detracting from it's originality. I also installed a tach dash in my truck.

Re: Whats your truck plans for 2017

17 for '17, huh.

1. Get it home
2. Get it running
3. Repair rockers
4. New carpet
5. New tires
6. Fix door handles
7. New fuel pump
8. Recolor the interior panels
9. Add a tilt column
10. New steering wheel
11. AC repair
12. New brakes
13. New points, plugs, wires,
14. New shocks and coils
15. Bed rust repair
16. Fresh paint on bumper
17. Full detail on exterior (saving the grease pencil marks under the hood)

So, basically a cheap restore with as many original parts kept as possible.

Re: Whats your truck plans for 2017

1. Lower the rear 2"
2. Install a seat out of a 88-94 truck
3. Rebuild the doors: latches, regulators, seals
4. Put together the 455 Oldsmobile and rebuild the 4L80E
5. Install #4 with the Holley Dominator EFI
6. Fab and install rear mount gas tank

I've got all the pieces and parts I need except for the seat. The truck is just waiting on me!!

Re: Whats your truck plans for 2017

'72 K2500:

1- Repair rusted rockers and cab corner
2- Powder coat new wheels
3- Set of tires
4- Replace printed circuit/repair cause of original frying
5- Tunes

Most likely get 2, 3, & 4 done. The other two would be nice.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'67 C1500:

1- Glass in cab
2- Front clip on
3- Install engine & trans <<< Really all 5 are one, get running, and the others are what it takes to get there
4- Make exhaust/driveshaft
5- Wired up and running

If I get the cab closed in and front clip on I'll be happy. The engine/trans install is no biggie, just want 1 and 2 done first. Gotta buy windshield and window seals for #1 and the rest is just do it. 4 and 5 will take money, so all depends on that sitiation

Re: Whats your truck plans for 2017

What used to be a fantasy list is now becoming a reality list.
1. Redo the bed wood. Cost $200 (cutting and routing the yellow pine my self)
2. Install a blazer tank and side filler door. Est $300. ( kit + welding mod on frame)
3. Remove the tank from the cab and fab a panel to hold speakers, amps, and subwoofer. $100. (Need to buy the Fiberglass sheet an resin, rest of materials on hand)
4. Front disc brake conversion $900 (this one is a stretch for this year. May have to wait till '18)

Are the windshields different between the 67-72 years?? I might have what you need, somewhat local to you too.

As far as a list for me hmm

Get the cab off
prep and get the frame apart
take apart and then build the bed I have with mostly stock or NOS parts
Fix or find a cab

Re: Whats your truck plans for 2017

We're having our first kid in a few weeks, so once my truck arrives, if I'm able to drive it to work once a week without anything breaking and maybe do one or two longish drives in early summer, that will be a pretty big win for me.
