15x8 Wheel and tire combination

Hey all,
I have the "rally" style wheels that Chevy used on the 1/2 ton pickups from 73-87. They are a 15x8 size wheel. I am trying to find a good street tire for them. I like the BF Goodrich T/A radials. The old tires that were on these rims were a 235 60 R 15 Hoosier....if memory serves me correct. I had the old tires removed so I could media blast and powder coat the rims. I lost the piece of paper I wrote the tire size on so now I am trying to see what tire looks good on that 8 inch rim. The local tire store said the best tire would be a Pathfinder tire but it is 30 x 9.5. I have 2" drop spindles up front and 3" drop coils in the rear. The 30 inch tire lifts the truck back up to where it was originally when it left the factory. I want to enhance the lowered suspension with a complementary tire. What they mounted for me are more like off-road tires with a really aggressive tread.

Would like to see some examples of some nice weekend street cruising combos.

I'm running the 5 lug version of those wheels on my 65 Suburban. They came off of an 86 Suburban, and I am running 235/75R15 generic tires from Walmart on mine. They ride nice, and seem to hold up ok. I'm trying to get my chrome smoothies back that I traded for the rally's as I like the chrome better.

That's interesting....I originally had them mount up a 235/75 15 and it was really ballooned out on the sidewall. I didn't like the look of it. I've seen some pics on here with 255 60 15 and they look really good with a 5/4 dropped suspension

That looks more like what I am aiming for. I ordered 245/60 for all four corners. I have the 2.5 drop in front and 3 inch at the rear.

Thanks for all the inputs everyone!

Re: 15x8 Wheel and tire combination

My truck has 2.5" drop spindles and torched coil (by PO) rear drop with 8x15 ralleys. The truck came with 225/60's I thought were too passenger car looking. I went with BFG Long Trail T/A Tour 235/70-15. It's a daily D so I run the same size front and rear and rotate. I have no rubbing issues and the look suits me, being radial with fairly square shoulders and not very aggressive tread. Not too good in the snow but I moved south last year.

Don't have a good pic but I can get 1 over the weekend if you want.

Re: 15x8 Wheel and tire combination

I would suggest you try to get a tire that's close to 28" tall. Both 235/70/15's and 275/60/15's are 28" tall. Depending on which drop spindles you may be able to run 275's all the way around. Most drop spindles move the wheels out 3/4" per side. I'm running 275's all around but I have only a spring drop now and when I install my new front end I'll use CPP Modular drop spindles so my wheel/tire combo should still work.

Several years ago I had 255/70 15 Firehawk SS tires on my truck, but they were too wide, and now I have bare metal on the inside of my wheelwells. I am going to get back to as close to the original size as I can(225/7515).

I went with 245 60 15 all the way around. Sorry the pics came out sideways. Not sure how to correct that...
