TH350 Issue
Thought I would start a new thread on this.
I was having slipping issues in Drive. If I put the trans in "D" and tried to go it would act like the trans was slipping. It would get going after a while and a good amount of slipping. It would start out fine if I started in "2" and then just shifted into "D" manually after I was at 40 MPH or so. I dropped the pan on found this. I bought the trans from a shop that rebuilds them and it has about 2,800 miles on it. Warranty is long gone. Shroud there be this much built up? All of it can be picked up by a magnet. |

Re: TH350 Issue
No that looks like clutch and or band material and particals that big aren't good that's for sure. I'd stop driving it asap and either have it torn down and fixed or get another trans

Re: TH350 Issue
I have seen worse in my trans. I have yet to rebuild or replace. When I purchased the vehicle 11 years ago I started flushing the trans about every 30k miles. I have done this about 4 times now and every time it looked about the same as yours.
I suspect you have a clogged passage and I am no trans expert. My fluid is dirty has heck right now and in need of another fluid change. I have put about over 100k on mine since purchase with no trans issues. That THM 350 is one heck of a unit. |

Re: TH350 Issue
^^^sorry but no,a 2,800 mile trans with pieces like that in the pan that are magnetic and slipping is not a clogging issue.

Re: TH350 Issue
In my experience a th350 will practically destroy itself if it is any more than 1 qt low on fluid. That's not hard to do if it has a leak and a driver that doesn't pay attention to every little noise and feel of his ride. Once it slips and you can't get moving, you have just burned up 25% of your clutch plates. If it works after that you are lucky. A th400 can go low on fluid and still come back and work fine. Just my .02. My th350 blowin' days are far behind me and I can't remember how many I killed in street cars. I am very anal about checking the fluid in my th350 vehicles now and fixing any leaks as soon as I see drops on the garage floor.

Re: TH350 Issue
How did the th350 act in reverse ? Did it slip like it did in drive ? If reverse is good.....Most likely you are experiencing problems in your forward clutch....the damage is done, most likely you would need to pull and tear it down to see your forward clutches are bad....just my thoughts. And of course the trans is full of fluid ?
Good luck !! |

At this point I'm looking to put in a 2004R instead of rebuilding the TH350. |
