I finally painted the tailgate.

The white along the lower part of the truck, and the tailgate of the Son In Laws 4x4 needed be repainted. The white looked like it had been painted with house paint, and if you gave never repaired the upper part of a tailgate be prepared for frustration.

I removed the lower molding, which requires the removal of the doors and bumpers. I didn't get a good shot of the lower white, but the work really woke the truck up.

Re: I finally painted the tailgate.

Nice work. Really made a lot of difference to the overall look of the truck. Can I ask where you sourced the chrome rear bumper? Another question: Were the wheels originally white on that truck? I ask because I note that just painting the wheels makes things look much better, and I'm wondering if white or silver was original on these trucks.

Re: I finally painted the tailgate.

The 6"x15" wheels on the truck when we got it were white. We added the 8"x15" wheels and had them powder coated. Here is a pic with the old and new wheels, and the old house paint along the bottom.

Re: I finally painted the tailgate.

It's nice when you can still find a truck that just takes a little here and a little there to look really sharp again. I remember when you hauled that one home. Looks great!

Re: I finally painted the tailgate.

RE; your comment about needing a little here and there.

I originally bought the Longhorn as a parts truck. I parked it out back and when I would walk by it, It would say something to me.

It's just an old truck, but damn I love to drive that thing. I never get tired of starting it up in the garage in the morning and hearing the lope of that big block.

Wonderful job!

Could you show a picture from straight on of the back of the truck? I'd like to see a straight shot of that bumper. How do you feel about the quality of the bumper? Any issues with it?

Re: I finally painted the tailgate.

Boog, we are taking it to the detail shop Wednesday to get the whole thing buffed. I started to buff it, but I have too many irons in the fire.

I can't even get time to come down and have lunch.

Re: I finally painted the tailgate.

Boog, The SIL is like me, he never sells anything. We put a new 290 HP crate motor in the 4x4. It runs good.

I come to my shop everyday. I work on my stuff and move the heavy hauls because I won't let anybody touch my Peterbilt. I took an excavator down to Oark last Wednesday and picked up an excavator at Ft Smith. It was a long day but a good day. Man the burgers at Oark Café are great.

Great part is they pay me to stay away. I go up front once in while and complain about something so they feel like they are getting their money's worth.

Call if you come through Harrison.

Re: I finally painted the tailgate.

RE; bumper question.

As far as reproduction bumpers go, it is fine. It's not as heavy as a OEM, but the fit and finish are good. I have several OEM cores, but we decided to put a repro bumper on because he uses this truck, and if it gets bent, no big loss. I forgot to order reproduction trim so I ended up using NOS trim on the tailgate.

I will post more pictures when we get it back from the detail shop.
