Motor mounts will not line up
So I tried installing the engine this afternoon and the motor mounts will not line up. I have everything completely loose. The driver side went in perfect but now the passenger side is about 2" off. Are the frame stands or mounts side specific? I don't know what I am doing wrong. Can someone please help me figure this out??

Re: Motor mounts will not line up
2" off is a definite clue that something about the stands is amiss. What engine are we installing? What was changed from the previous engine being bolted up? A picture of each side will be a help.

Re: Motor mounts will not line up
I think there is a left and a right. And when I think I put mine on. I had to leave them loose. Was just the nuts started. And I think the bolts were a little on the long side. Hope this helps.

Re: Motor mounts will not line up
It's the same block that came out of it. The only thing that is different are the motor mounts. Could they possibly be the wrong mounts?

Are the frame stands side specific? It's been so long since I took it apart I don't remember. The motor mounts look exactly the same...

Re: Motor mounts will not line up
You are using the clamshell mounts on the motor. You need the earlier style. 67 to 72. Small block V-8 style. There is a single stud in the center.

Re: Motor mounts will not line up
I'm completely confused now. The mounts on the motor are the same ones I took off when I pulled the engine. Could someone please post a picture of what I am supposed to have. My pick-up is a 1970 Chevy and it's a 350 block. Thanks for the help so far.

Re: Motor mounts will not line up
I have no idea if the block is original to the pick-up. Could it be a later style block and I bought the wrong mounts?

Re: Motor mounts will not line up
Someone must've adapted the clamshell mounts to the frame stand mounts. Is there a center hole in the pedestal frame mounts? If there is. You can just buy the rubber mounts bolt on the block. They have one stud on them. I will go take a picture.

Re: Motor mounts will not line up
There isn't a hole in the center. Just the 3 that line up with the block. Could mine be a later year model?

Re: Motor mounts will not line up
So what part is new, the mounts or the stands? Is your motor a small block?

Re: Motor mounts will not line up
Mine has three on the block also. I'm talking about the one that is mounted to the frame. But your Frame mounts look different than mine. Someone might've change them over. Can you get a better picture of the Frame mounts. If you put your finger underneath the frame mounts. And feel for a single hole. But if everything was already mounted there once. You would think it would go back together. Maybe you have to flip one of the mounts around.

Re: Motor mounts will not line up
look like 73 and up style mounts might have to take the one bolt back out and jockey the motor around a little but they should go ive seen them off more than that and go just a pain

Re: Motor mounts will not line up
There isn't a hole in the center of the frame mount. The only holes are the ones for the motor mount.

Re: Motor mounts will not line up
Yes mines is a small block too. Were these mounts already installed once? Or is this a new build? I guess what I am saying is was this motor and the mounts already installed when you got the truck?

Re: Motor mounts will not line up
These are the same mounts that are on it when I bought it. I pulled the engine and it was rebuilt and everything is back just like it was. Here are some more pictures.

Re: Motor mounts will not line up
Are you hanging the motor from a hoist or raising it with a jack? I have found hanging it to be easier most of the time. You may have to loosen ALL the bolts to the frame and the block as loose as possible and still have them stay connected. Then put your fore and aft bolts in and then set the engine down. Pointed line up bars and a flat pry will help along with a good supply of curse words.

Re: Motor mounts will not line up
IT'S IN!! So I finally decided to put the drivers side bolt back in and took the frame stand off of the frame and attached it to the motor mount. Then I lowered it back down on the frame. It was still off a little but waaaayy closer than what it was. I was able to get the bolts back in the top of the frame stand and used a 2x4 and a hammer and was able to get the bottom hole lined up. That with a few choice words got it done!! Thanks for everyone's time and help.
