what is this for? Is this what we used to use on our race cars to keep the engine from pulling the motor mount in two?

the driver's side engine mount had a habit of delaminating under a stressfull load(torque),
this limited the amount of movement

motor mount tie down, my 1968 camero had them on it, it was hypo, lots of power

Nothing to do with hipo. It was a safety recall item for v8s with solid throttle linkage. My 65 Impala 327 has it.

So like when the engine would torque up the throttle linkage would bind & cause embarrassing events?

X2^^^ (jayoldschool) The early mounts were NOT interlocking and IF the left mount was bad it could (and did) rip apart under high acceleration and then hold the throttle WIDE open and away you go ..So the recall fix was that kit the dealer would install ...Then they learned how to make them interlocking so not a problem any longer

I don't think that they had any other type of linkage. if the mount didn't pop then there would be no problem. the cable prevented that from happening,
some guys used chain
the ones that were really bad back then were the 58-61 T-birds with 332/352 engs. in them with a/trans. you could pop that left side m/mount at will. we use to repair lots of them

I be-live 68 was the first year for throttle cable in GM cars and 73 for trucks ...before cable it was throttle linkage (rods) only

It certainly appears (By the drawings anyway) that this kit bolts to the frame in the same proximity as the clutch linkage.

It was also on 1st Gen Novas as well. My 64 with a 283 broke the mount and pinned the throttle open. I calmly put the trans (th350) in neutral and the engine dropped down and went back to idle. I'm not sure where I got non interlocking mounts from because this was in 2000 or so.

NOS stop lift kits are common for the 64-67 Novas.

they usually popped easier with a/trans cause people would torque thm up in gear with their other foot of the brake pedal.

My uncle was original owner of a 65 Impala SS with 327 and it too had these straps.

I could kill him for selling that car and not giving me a chance to buy it.......

The manual trans trucks were not a problem as far as I know because of the bell-housing mounts ..... I would guess that the (truck) recall was only on the ones with auto trans

One thing that is odd is all the kits I have seen are 65 and 66 not earlier Hmmmm?

I found a set with the instructions I could read and it says to "use 2 existing holes in left frame just forward of the cowl" ... That would be the clutch linkage holes So as I thought above the kits (for trucks) must have only been for ones with auto trans........

On the right side the cable just hooked under the engine perch bracket and bolted to two of the exhaust man. bolts

OK then this makes sense, thanks! On my truck it will be using a 400 sb w/ a 4wd transfer, hence a single point rear mount, but a cable throttle for sure. Thanks again!

Also on the paper work in the kit it shows how much clearance must be between the throttle rod and the coil on the right side (1/2") and the spark plug wire holder on the left side 1 1/2" MIN...... that must be what they thought was hitting the rod and causing the throttle to stick open as the engine rocked over
