Benefits from changing from 6 lug to 5 lug wheels?
I have a 67 Suburban C10 2wd. I'm looking at switch from 6 lug with drum brakes to 5 lug with disc brakes. Is there much of an advantage to go with 5 lug wheels other than there being more wheels to choose from? I'm looking to run a simple 15" or 16" steel wheel without a spacer.
Thanks, Nick |

I'm also wondering if I do switch to a 5 lug wheel should I go with a 5x5 lug pattern or a 5x4.75?

On my 69 Burb I switched to a 15 inch 5x5 wheel. The only reason i see to go to 5x4.75 is if you are going to use Camaro or Corvette brakes.

The only reason to switch is for variety of available wheels. The fewer lugs and the smaller the spacing, the lighter duty they are.

I personally see no need, and have no desire to switch away from 6 bolt wheels.

You can buy 6 bolt disc brake conversions discs form different suppliers. I know Early Classic Enterprises sells a 6 lug disc brake conversion kit.

Just know that if you go with 6-lug disc brakes and you have stock 6-lug rims, they won't fit the disc brakes.

Re: Benefits from changing from 6 lug to 5 lug wheels?
If you are happy with your 6 lug wheels and your drum brakes there is NO reason to get caught up in this 5 lug swap craze! There are disc brake conversions for 6 lugs but unless you are running a high HP engine the stock drums well adjusted and cared for are fine.

Re: Benefits from changing from 6 lug to 5 lug wheels?
Thanks for all of the replies and suggestions guys. After weighing my options I think I'm going to stay 6 lug for now. I've been looking at these wheels just wondering if they will fit properly. What do you guys think? Will I be able to add a factory style disc brake behind these wheels?
Also would you go 15" or 16" I'm not sure which size has more tire options. I'm looking at putting wide white on these wheels. https://m.summitracing.com/parts/usw-68-5860 Thanks, Nick |

Re: Benefits from changing from 6 lug to 5 lug wheels?
So I ended up ordering one of the wheels today. I can test fit the one wheel and hopefully find some cheap tires to put on to test fit as well.

Re: Benefits from changing from 6 lug to 5 lug wheels?
the only disadvantage to aftermarket 6 lug discs is that you cant run to autozone etc on a sunday and buy a new rotor...lots of us did our conversions back when there were no conversion kits
