Cab floor rust repair tips?

I'm disassembling my truck at my friend's shop and was thinking about bringing the cab to my garage to do the rust repair. My plan was to blast and prime it before replacing the rusted bits.

Do I need to be able to place it back on the frame while doing the rust repair to keep it square or should I be able to do all the repair in my garage without the frame?

Also, do any of you have any favorite how-to's or threads that detail the process of repairing a rusted cab the right way?

Here's a picture of what used to be the passenger side floor support.

Re: Cab floor rust repair tips?

I can't say for sure, but I would feel better doing the repairs while the cab is on the frame so you can be certain everything is right. It would really suck setting it back on the frame and the doors don't close. Someone with more experience should chime in soon.

Re: Cab floor rust repair tips?

I did all my cab repairs, cab off. Just weld in some supports across the door before you cut the rust out. Take some key measurements and be sure nothing changes before you weld back.

Re: Cab floor rust repair tips?

If you take a look in my winter beater thread there are some pictures that might help. I replaced everything, and the cab was on jack stands, or on its back. No need for the frame to be there, but if your replacing cab mounts take lots of measurements. You will need to have your doors as well, you need to test fit the doors before you weld up the outer rockers.

Re: Cab floor rust repair tips?

Thanks for the responses. I'll bring back the doors to confirm the openings.
