72 C30 Dually (the way it should have been)

I didn't start a build thread because the truck probably won't get a lot rear nice work done on it. The plan is simply to have something to use for hauling and towing. Who know what will happen but I wanted to share a few pics.

The truck started out as a 72 C30 with the narrow dually rear. It was a wrecker all it's life. Now it has a Dana 70HD with a 4.10. Most importantly, an 8' bed with proper looking flares. They came from a 67 stepside.

That's a fantastic idea! Looks great. I've got a C10, and am wishing that I'd looked a little harder for a C20 or C30.

That should be a workhorse for sure. I want one, only I would like to have a '67 or '68 style....

Re: 72 C30 Dually (the way it should have been)

Lolife, thanks for fixing the pic. I uploaded from my phone and I couldn't rotate it.

The body came from another 72 C10 I had so I haven't changed the emblems yet. I think it's going to get a coat of Rustoluem flat black when it warms up. Still have to lengthen the rear frame rails and add the step bumper. Here s what it looked like before and a shot of the rear.

I held onto those fenders for a couple years , listed them once or twice with no takers until you grabbed them , I'll bet a few guys would like to have them now ? They worked perfect without the side markers , I still have the rest of that short bed truck .

I wondered if you would see the thread. I was happy to find 67 so I didn't have the markers. Thank you, again. Several of the local boys already think they are stock since the color is/was very close. The best part is I cut out the only rust they had when I trimmed them to fit the bedside. Flat fenders don't mate well to a curved bedside. That part was a little challenging.

Looking good, I like it with the factory paint on it! Possibly paint the fenders to match for the time being? Do you plan to fabricate an inner wheel well?

Re: 72 C30 Dually (the way it should have been)

I've got a 71 that I have kinda been looking for a Longhorn bed to do that to.
I do have a 3/4 frame that if I have to I could use it and a regular bed, I already have the fenders without the markers.

I really like it! There are so many over restored trucks out there, I enjoy seeing ones that are "nice enough" more these days. The older these get the cooler it is to see ones still manly enough to put in a day of work. I mean, that is a very handsome truck right there as it sits! Looks better than a brand new truck to me.

Yes, it was 133". I took 6" out of the frame so it would be 127".

I wish it was factory paint. It's a crappy old excuse for a paint job or I'd consider painting the fenders the solid blue and putting the moldings back on. The body has a lot of filler too. I may just drive it as is. No plans to make inner fenders but I need to trim the inner wheel wells out. One, so you can't see them and two, for tire clearance if I lower it in the rear or have a lot of weight in the back. I'm glad to see others like it as much as I do.

That's too bad about the repaint. When I mount my fenders I plan to come up with some sort of inner fender but I also don't have plans to lower it and there's enough spring where I can't see it being overloaded.
