1971 C-10 402

It runs like a top, but it hasn't been rebuilt in a long while. Considering the rest of the truck will be mostly restored, I figure a fresh carb. is in order. It no longer has a choke. I believe it had a divorced choke, and I may be missing some linkage as well. Hopefully the service can set me up with everything needed for the choke as well.

On a side note, as a learning experience - I needed a carb. for my beater because the Rochester in that didn't have a choke either. Not having replaced a carb. before, and because I "chose" to learn how on my "good truck", I paid to have an Edlebrock installed. It runs like a top and probably gets better gas mileage, but I did lose some guts. Apparently as "standard" replacement carbs. go, Edlebrook is practical, while Holley offers power. Had I known that, I may have run with a Holley. It's a driver, but I do miss the power.

On another side note, as a learning experience: Also found out they make an electric choke for these carbs. Don't know what's involved, like whether or not my carb. has the required parts, but in hindsight again.........

Sean Murphy Induction does a good job. I just got my restored q-jet back for the blazer build from SMI.

If you enjoy going "hands on" and like Q-Jets, get Cliff Ruggles book "How To Rebuild And Modify Rochester Quadrajet Carburetors". Darn good book with lots of great info! Pictures alone are worth the price of admission.

I had mine rebuilt by Mark at Quadrajet Power, at the recommendation of another member here. He did a great job, at a reasonable price. The fact that he was local to me was a bonus!

If you are going for a stock setup and want inexpensive, and ready to bolt on and go, I recommend National Carburetors. http://nationalcarburetors.com/

The Edelbrock carb should have practically the same "guts" as the Q-jet or Holley. Possibly the secondary throttles are not opening due to the linkage adjustments. You can get a kit to put electric choke on the ED carb. If it is running good & mileage is respectful I would leave it on there.

That was my first thought (2nds), but I believe they're opening. I'll do a visual when the weather allows it. The Edelbrock does have a choke.
