Manual 465 to Auto 350

Newbie here, first post! Great Forum!

I have a 72 K5 that was originally 3spd on the column (not sure what transfer case) but the PO put a SM465/NP205 in it.

I had a donor TH350/NP203 so I swapped input shafts on my 205, found an adapter and sleeve, and put the 350/205 combo in. I was surprised that it went together so easy! Cross members stayed in the original locations and didn't even have to modify the drivelines!

Only problem I have now is my shifters...

First I don't have the original transfer case shifter and the only one I can find came out of a late 70s truck. Well it wont work! In 2H it hits the back of the cutout in the trans hump... I know I could cut the hole or bend the shifter but it seems like the attachment point on the adapter is just to far back?? Does the original shifter really bend that far forward? Anyone else had this problem?

Second problem I don't have any shifter for the Auto and im getting real tired of crawling under there to shift it. I tried an auto tilt column and linkage from a 79 K1500 but the column doesn't fit right without major mods and the linkage rod is about 1 inch too short.

here is a link showing the 205 transfer case shifter. There are 2 different styles depending on the year. Go to the classified section here on the board as they do come up for sale every so often. Same goes for the automatic column and linkages.

I took a picture of the steering column the second is of the light socket that goes in the back of the dash. When the headlights are turned on it will illuminate the gear selections. I can't tell you if the turn signals or horn were working at the time of removal I never checked. If I remember correctly this one had a blown motor so I never hooked a battery up. I have all the other linkage and parts also but I would not be able to remove until Thursday it so suppose to be 61 degrees Thursday. 130 for everything plus shipping the steering column will be everything but the steering wheel.

I just noticed the turn signal knob is missing I will swap it out with a complete one once the steering wheel is removed. It also needs the shifter which I have also.

Hey I really appreciate the offer but I just found a van column locally. I might be interested in the linkage if I can't make what I have work. Thank you

I could be wrong and if so I'm sure someone will chime in but the van column will need modified to work it will not have a neutral safety switch location.

I think I got lucky then because this one is the exact same as my original column except it's tilt and auto. same neutral safety location and alignment notch. It even had the same firewall grommet still attached under the carpet. It was in a 72 class A motorhome. Maybe it was an original truck column...
