Bought a New GMC
Yesterday I just made a deal on a 1965 GMC 5000 with a supposed 351 V6. Going to go pick it up tomorrow morning. It is an ex-fire truck, only has 40,000 miles and is straight as an arrow, rust free, and has near-new tires. Pictures to come when I pick it up.

Re: Bought a New GMC
Yes, the wiring needs work but for firing up with just little priming after sitting for a few years, I am plumb happy. |

Re: Bought a New GMC
Anybody tell me what kind of conversion used this transfer case? Marmon Harrington?

Re: Bought a New GMC
The transfer case is either a Coleman 22 or 42. The 22 is typical 2 wheel, selectable 4 wheel. The 42 is a full time 4 wheel and has differential action between front and rear, the second shift lever on the 42 changes it from differential action to locked. DO NOT RUN a 42 on a dyno with the front wheels on the ground, it'll destroy the transfer case.
Best regards, T Herder |

Re: Bought a New GMC
Had a little time the other day so I jerked the plate off and stuck an old flatbed that I had laying around on it.
While it was in the shop, I wanted to do something about the lack of a floor mat. Since a new repop obviously isn't available and NOS is too spendy and hard to come by, I decided to make my own thinking it shouldn't be too hard since there is no hump in floor like pickups have. One $37 3/4" thick horse trailer mat later and I have a floor mat. While I still think it is a great idea, there are a couple problems. 1) Getting it in the truck was the hardest workout I have had in a long time. Trying to wrestle a 100 pound wet noodle into the cab of a really tall truck and trying to snake it around the steering wheel and three shifter levers proved to be quite difficult. 2) Being 3/4" thick, it really isn't overly flexible. I'm hoping that some 100* days this summer will help it lay out to the floor board a bit, but I'm a little skeptical of whether or not it actually will. |
