That is a nice looking truck!
I find it amazing that the original owner had it for 64 years. That's quite impressive!

Exactly, I guess I am much older than I really thought

Re: Someone will be getting a heck of a truck!!

There's more "survivors' out there than we think, I guess. Price seems high to me, though, as there's lots of small damage on the truck, thinks like the seat, the tailgate, the holes in the bedsides, etc. Perhaps it is because a short fleet just commanfs this sort of price.

If this thing sells around 20K, this hobby will be heading to the "priced out of reach" range for lots of us. Every time I think of selling my 69, I see something like this, and figure I should just hold on for a while.

The seller says its a 1-owner, but admits his girlfriend has been driving it the last two years. That's not a 1-owner.

This is getting to be a very expensive hobby.

Re: Someone will be getting a heck of a truck!!

....regarding the suspicious looking bids...

You bet there are plenty of shill bidders on eBay. These trucks often sell and then are relisted immediately or within a very short period. I've personally been involved in bidding and have no doubt that these guys are running the bids up artificially in many cases. eBay doesn't seem to care one bit either.

I have come to the conclusion that the term one owner now means that only one person owns it......

The automatic bidding doesn't help..
The owner now have buddies or themselves.. bump up the bids..
instead of listing it with a reserve ..
If their bid is the last bid.. that account goes cold.. and they'll open another with another gmail email..
and repost claiming a non-paying bidder..

Re: Someone will be getting a heck of a truck!!

I don't think this is a sign of the hobby getting too expensive.

It's a rare truck in that it hasn't been modified... so it becomes desirable and the price is on the top end of the hobby.

There are still budget trucks out there.

Re: Someone will be getting a heck of a truck!!

That is a pretty sweet old truck... but it isn't $18k+ sweet, in my opinion. Original is cool, but original with a good bit of wear begins to mean less except to a very specific buyer.

And yeah, the one-owner thing is just a lie. That right there makes me wary.

Fun truck to look at, though!

Re: Someone will be getting a heck of a truck!!

I've been watching this one on EBay and gee the high bidder has "0" Feedback so is it real live money at 17k? The other thing and I know they can be added but that much money for truck with no power steering or power brakes. The most I'd go on this one ( if I wanted a SWB truck) is maybe 10/12k at the outside.

Nice truck ,But just another flipper claiming one owner ,Yeah the guy before him ! so if you got it you would be #3 . I didn't see any interior pics ? I've noticed many times the bids go crazy with a 0 feedback bidder ? is it the owner padding the bid or searching for the top automatic bid ?

is it the owner padding the bid or searching for the top automatic bid ? This I often wonder myself, especially when when you look at the bidders list and it has private bidders.

Seller is full of BS, why promote his trade? Obvious panels have been replaced etc and the truck is ruff to say the least. When theres so much lie, you can bet the Gf drives truck everywhere story is bogus 100% and you wouldnt get back from the grocery store lol.

Re: Someone will be getting a heck of a truck!!

I wouldn't be surprised to see this one relisted due to "non paying bidder"

Why are there NO interior or engine bay pics? Nothing underneath? No door bottom or under cab pics??? Someone who claims to be a real car guy should know better.

You can't claim "1 Owner" if you bought it 4 years ago and let your GF basically have it, it's now a 3 owner truck, the new guy will be #4.

The paint also looks wrong to me. I know black tends to wear weird compared to other colors, but in this pic it almost looks like there's clear coat peel, in another pic it looks like there's a big chip on top of a fender flare that looks like bondo chipped out?

All that said... if the body pans out a truely rust free, I would pay top dollar to start with a truck that clean/straight, but nowhere near what it's going for now, there's plenty of clean restored trucks out there for that price.

Edit: Apparently I missed the scroll thing for more pics, Interior and under the hood are definitely indicative of a truck that's been driven. Still no underneath shots?

I don't disagree with your comments, but i want to point out that what LOOKS like a hunk of bondo missing on the top of the LF fender, it is actually a reflection of the mirror in the fender. Look at the other pics and is shows a clear shot from the top and there are NO chunks missing in the top of the fender at that location.

Yes, overpriced for what it is. The bumpers look too nice to match up to the skid marks on the truck.

There's more here than meets the eye.

I didn't realize that the "Passenger Toilet Paper Roll Dispenser" was a factory option in 1968.

There is no rear bumper on the SPID.
"Bought with some desirable options"
Like no radio, no A/C, no PS, no PB, Base model trim (not custom), and many more no option options.
Was the Factory Light Switch Option in the radio delete panel to turn on the interior light? Maybe engage the supercharger?

Re: Someone will be getting a heck of a truck!!

Tailgate has some serious trailer tongue rash so we know it towed a trailer, has no hitch and a very new looking rear bumper. extra wiring from the battery area across the engine bay are likely farmerized trailer brake wiring. Too bad the original owner didn't sell it "before" buying the trailer.

Its a nice truck and I agree with the $10-12k number vs. the current $17k number.
The original condition element is a plus in my books...but it has limits.
The 'one owner' thing is a very tricky claim to make....and this one probably doesn't qualify....because if it did my truck is a one owner too....which in reality it isn't any longer.
As well...I'm not sure if the one owner claim is always a great bonus....or a cost escalator.
Regardless....nice truck.....let's see what happens at the end of the auction.

All Good

Nice truck to have and not been modified.
Thank you Barrett Jackson and the other auctions out there for making these very expensive trucks to buy!

It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

If the SPID doesn't spec a V-8, shouldn't have a 6 cyl in it?

VIN is CE148F

Which breaks down to 4x2, V-8-Gas, 1/2 ton, Cab w/Bed, & Flint, Michigan. The straight six is an S instead of the E. My truck has an S and nothing listed on the spid so my truck was originally a base 250 Straight Six.

If the V8 engine size wasn't mentioned on the Spid, it would be the base 307? Which is what he claims it to have. The powerglide is an option on his SPID. I believe the 3 OTT was the "standard" transmission and wouldn't be mentioned on the spid.

The chrome rear bumper isn't listed, so it was likely added later.

The location of the truck and the authenticity of the original paint concern me. I don't "trust" trucks from up north (Indiana), but the drip rails and rockers look really clean for a truck that was actually driven... I just don't know on this one, I'm skeptical.

Hood, cowl and driver fender repainted. Good to know all that brown stuff EVERYWHERE isnt rust.

This is a good start to something that needs major attention/restoration. Not worth over 6 grand IMHO.
