My Flip Down Tail Light Gas Filler.
Here are some pic's of My flip down tail light gas filler.
I had to cut the stake pocket out of the box and some of the rear box crossmembers. I also had to do extensive mod's to the tail light housing. I also had to remove 1/16 of from under the tail light opening in the box side. I used a cabinet hinge fromHome Depot. For the filler tube I cut the old neck off of a tank.( I filled the tank with water) Then I heated the neck up and removed the filler ring that the gas cap clips into.(It was soldered on) I welded it to the exhaust pipe that I had bent up. I still need to get the L.E.D's from Early Classics. Frigging Expensive though. Oh I had to flip the taillight housing too. I was planning on using a Blazer tank but the plans may change. Here are some pic's I will never do this mod again ! I am not kidding.

I would never do it again. I would rather spend the time somewhere else. And run the filler thru the bed floor.

Just wait until you start crusing and showing your truck. The compliments you will get at the gas station and other places will make up for the frustration. :p
BTW: That is freaking slick man!

72MARIO: I guess that you don't want to drive up to my place in Fenelon and try that mod on my truck then.

Mario, have you tried to open it with the bumper installed yet? With the bumper on, will it open enough to get the fuel pump nozzle in the filler?

Wow this is old.
I have actually trashed this idea. The light cleared the bumper but I could not get a hinge that had no side to side play. So whenever I closed it the tail light housing would hit the inside of the light opening and if the truck was painted in time it would chip/wear all of the paint off. There was like 1/16" of side to side play at the top of the light it would hit either side. I feel really bad that I gave up on this Idea it was such a cool mod but I just did not have the tallent to custom fab my own hinge at the time. I have installed a 20 gallon fuel cell form summit with a fule sending unit. I am using a stainless gas filler for a boat and sticking it in the wood floor. The Blazer tank I was planning on using hung way too low and I would have had to hack out all of the crossmember to clear the tank.

The fule cell I am using is aluminum 24x20x10 " it has a 0-90 ohm sending unit too. The fuel cell is 10 inches deep so it should hang down about 5 inches.

Mario, How are you doing your wood bed with that big drop? I am sure you must have notched the rear...right? I love the wood but am not sure how it will look stepped. Maybe just do the flat part in wood and cover the notch in sheet metal.

Here is a pic of how You could notch the wood floor If you step notched the frame. It's not necessary with a C notch. I can have my axel hit the frame and the pumpkin will not hit the wood floor. I have not notched the frame though. I think if I notch the frame I coulds only get another 2" drop before the pupmkin hit's the wood floor. So a not in my case it would not be worth notching the frame.
