Any Recent IV Vintage Air Installs?

Has anybody recently installed the Vintage Air Gen IV? Any tips or tricks learned along the way? I did a forum search but didn't see anything newer than 2012 and surely there have been changes/updates to the kit.

I'm starting my install on my 70 non-air cab (at least the cab side- the engine is out and the front clip is off). It's a real mess of parts in the kit for sure.

We're the instructions correct or did you find anything along the way that you would do different were you to do it again?

In to watch this. I'm getting ready to order the same kit myself, as I also have a non-ac cab. I'll be using the existing heater controls.

Re: Any Recent IV Vintage Air Installs?

I got lucky, there's a factory authorized installer in the town I live in so I had him put mine in my 69' Suburban. I'm up for most things but that one was more than I wanted to do. I had a gen IV installed in the front and a mini slimline in the rear.

Installed mine about a year ago. Instructions were very good and I had no problems with the install.

Re: Any Recent IV Vintage Air Installs?

I usually don't drink before lunch but the stress of cutting the dash required it today. It would have been easier mentally if a previous owner had already cut it up for a stereo or something. Came out good. Hopefully it'll be less stressful from here. I posted pics on my build thread.

Talking Re: Any Recent IV Vintage Air Installs?

I bought the Classic air group AC heater unit, not the vintage air and it was easy enough to install. I did the whole install by my self in the 56 Chevy. I like the Classic over the vintage because the cab unit fit like a glove. No prying on the dash to install it like the V/A unit. Trucks may be different but Classic air is in both of mine the 71 C 10 and 56 Bel Air.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Any Recent IV Vintage Air Installs?

Doing same in a truck for a customer rite now. Install on this one is different than most because it has a LWP and I wanted compressor on passenger side still. Along with aluminum radiator and electric fans and the list goes on. I have round holes cut, I didn't like the location template put them in so I moved closer to edge of dash and a little down so it wouldn't be close to curve on dash for cluster. In doing this I had to trim bracket for dash as well as replace one dash bolt with a button head style. Sorry picture gets flipped when I upload from phone.

When I was lining up my templates I was careful to make sure they would be flat as possible and did adjust a bit (though there is a ton of interpretation on where the templates should be placed). The left side fit easily but I clipped more dash support stuff on the passenger side and had to do some extra filing to fit it properly.

Re: Any Recent IV Vintage Air Installs?

Now for the center vent I'll cut that today. Thinking easiest way will be with an air body saw. Have to get it centered and level, thanks to a previous owner dash is already cut at radio opening.

Re: Any Recent IV Vintage Air Installs?

I went a different way with the center vent. I did not want to have one little skinny vent so I went with V/A's add on dual vents. The 2 knobs on the right of the ash tray are the controls for the rear heat/AC.

Did you do a writeup on that install? link? thanks.

BTW, I think you helped by adding what you did. Discussions are not JUST for the benefit of the OP, but an open forum for all. I have benefited greatly from reading extensively compared to my rate of posting.

It was a bugger with a dremel. Difficult to get the needed angle.

Perhaps. I deleted it but it seemed to be the same as me going on his 1 ton axle question thread and telling him the moser axle install in my 1/2 ton 12 bolt went great.

I'll let it go now.
