Windshield pinchweld-should it have this gap?

On the windshield driver side of a 66, should the pinch weld around the windshield area be clamped together tight, or is this gap supposed to be there for drainage? Seems like it contributed to the rusted out areas Im having to fix, didnt want to weld it up or seam seal it if its supposed to be open like this.




Im making repairs where somehow water got in and rusted things out pretty good, where the dash meets the windshield on the driver side.

No gaps. The dashboard flange and the cowl flange together form the retainer for the bottom of the windshield rubber.

Thanks, I assumed I could hammer it together tighter and weld it up. My luck it would cause another issue.
