Gas Tank

Looking to purchase a new or good used gas tank for my 1970 C-10 Pick-Up? Also will need the sending unit. Also any idea to keep or slow down the moisture inside the tank? Beside having to keep it full of fuel all the time? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: Gas Tank

I bought my gas tank from brothers trucks and the sending unit too. Fit was great. Dropped right in.

Yes, best to keep it full of gas if leaving for long periods with moving it around. Only way I know to keep the rust from starting.

Re: Gas Tank

My tank is OEM and it flash rusted WITH a topped off tank.

I had it "renewed" and we will see if that does the trick.

If parking for a long time, I would suggest draining the tank fully and letting the engine run until it quit.

Would that cause "vapor lock?"

Re: Gas Tank

I believe all stock gas tanks are made of galvanized steel to resist corrosion. However today's ethanol/gas blends do tend to be corrosive in nature. Engines that sit for extended periods of time are more affected than those run regularly. Mississippi shouldn't be any more susceptible to in tank moisture buildup than any other locale.
There are fuel stabilizers and in tank coatings available to help keep them clean.
You can use only high test grade gas to help prevent corrosion as it is ethanol free.

Maybe where you're at..

I have not looked at the 1972 tank set up... but I think most of the issue is the open"vented" nature of the fuel system.. ethanol draws in moisture .
You'd not keep your brake master open because of this.. fluid collecting moisture..
If I was changing tanks(buying) I think I'd look at what the 72 set up is. and how sealed it is.. i.e. charcoal can /etc..
Wonder if anyone re-pops this in s.s. .. not that ,that will stop the fuel from sucking moisture..

Yea...only non ethanol gas would be stuff that is labeled as ethanol free, like if you have a lake near by, lots of times marinas and stations near the water have ethanol free fuel. Plus running high tes in an engine that doesn't have high enough compression and way advanced timing is not only a waste of money but will carbon up up your engine for no reason.

Re: Gas Tank

I'm also looking for a fuel tank for my 70 C30. Will the tank in the Ebay link work for mine? The Ebay tank says its for a truck with EEC which I don't have on my 70. What are the differences if any?

Question Re: Gas Tank

Anyone know what company would have the lowest priced gas tank to purchase? I purchased a tank about 2 years ago and it already has rust in the tank!

Re: Gas Tank

I bought one last year from LMC Trucks. Brothers Trucks sells them. I'm sure there are others. I found between Brothers and LMC price and freight to me the total cost was almost the same.

Browse the vendors who support this board too. They sometimes offer specials and discounts to members.
