Adding ammeter to one wire Alt.

In process of removing old ratty add on ammeter. When shop installed new engine they converted new Alt to a one wire set up they warned me old ammeter would not work anymore. Have a new ammeter to install but confused (my normal state). Anyone have a nice simple diagram showing wiring set up for one wire alt to ammeter?

Re: Adding ammeter to one wire Alt.

here's a link to wiring an ammeter. But, if your old ammeter worked before, it still could have worked with a 1 wire alternator.

Re: Adding ammeter to one wire Alt.

Ammeter just tells you what direction the current is flowing and how much is flowing. It doesn't tell the state of charge of your battery or tell how much of a charge your alternator/generator is putting out. Basically a Yup it reads + it's keeping up with or ahead of the demand, OOPs it's reading - the systems on the rig are drawing more juice than the alternator is putting out.
