Chevelle/Camaro sport steering wheel

Anybody put the comfort grip steering wheel on our trucks?
If so which hub did you use 67-68 style Chevelle or 69-72 style?
I got a nice blue rim Chevelle wheel at a swap and thought the 15" would be nice with my power steering. Just need the button, hub and horn components.

Re: Chevelle/Camaro sport steering wheel

I've used that wheel in plenty of these trucks, but couldn't say which hub I used on each one. I guess I just got lucky and they fit.

This is the hub I have always used. Factory correct. Will fit our trucks.
I haven't found one that didn't work. They maybe out there but I've not seen one that didn't.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Chevelle/Camaro sport steering wheel

IIRC, the 67-69's use a 4 1/8 diameter column and the 70-72's use a 41/4 diameter column.
So match the hub to your column year/size. I got the hub with mine when I bought if off of ebay.

This is close to the right answer.
You use the hub for the original application that applies to the truck column.
That being said, the truck column is the same diameter as a car column that does not have the key on the column, therefore the proper hub is the 67-8 one. Cars 69 and later got the key on the column.

Either will fit as the splines are the same and the mounting depth is similar. The later hub just doesn't match the diameter of the column very well, the earlier hub looks much much better. If this thread lives I will post a picture of each mounted since I have one of each.

Talking Re: Chevelle/Camaro sport steering wheel

I have a 67 SS Chevelle wheel in my 71 C-10 I have the older corvette wheel mounted on the Ramp Rat. The Chevelle is not got the hub it's part of the steering wheel like the factory truck steering wheel.

The corvette has the hub.
I'm going to install the tilt column with the wood grain wheel soon I hope.
I have to sand it and have it dipped and then install it.

Re: Chevelle/Camaro sport steering wheel

For the ignition switch on the dash GM vehicles, use the 67-68 wheel. For ignition switch on column, use the 69+ wheel.

While we are on the subject, how do you install the horn button? I cannot get mine centered.

Re: Chevelle/Camaro sport steering wheel

Blue/72's wheel appears to be the Camaro Comfort Grip wheel. I have the same one in my short step as well as my Camaro and my '79 CJ-5 because why not?
