Big Block Engine Codes
I bought a project truck that came with a 454. I am having trouble finding the correct info on the engine. The casting number is 14015445 which is a 454 1978-1990 2 or 4 bolt main. The only numbers on the pad in front of the pass head is either 1JJ506838 or JJ506838. The first 1 could be a scratch as it is faint and the other letters and number are strong stamping. When looking online there should be two numbers on this pad but I can only find one. I looked above the oil filter on the pad but is still rough never machined down so there is no number there.
I have tried all the internet searches but I could not find anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I need to get parts for it. |

Re: Big Block Engine Codes
What are you wanting to know? Just more basic info like foundry and year or what? Do you have heads on it? Can you pull a valve cover and see what casting the heads are?

Re: Big Block Engine Codes
I did a quick look and couldn't find ANYTHING with a PLB suffix. Are you fairly sure you got that correct?

Re: Big Block Engine Codes
I found the PLB listed on the LMC web site and it is listed as a 1988 C20 454 TBI, but it has a Edelbrock intake and carb 1406, and a turbo 400 still attached. I would like to know if 2 or 4 bolt main will have to pull the pan for that to be sure. Heads are 14092360.
I would like to know for sure what year and what it came out of from parts. It is complete minus starter, but has no belts. General info like plug gap it has a EFI in it now was that what it started life with? Thanks for all the help. |

Re: Big Block Engine Codes
Seanext, any chance you have a link to wherever you found it? It more complete, or at least different, from the sources I was looking at so would like to have that one in my repertoire.
