Need help to install some kind of neutral safety in sm465 4 speed
I need help tryed to start to start my jimmy didn't press the clutch in and it almost fired up in second gear!! How do install some kind of neutral safety in my 72 jimmy with the sm465 4 speed thanks

there should be a switch on the clutch pedal, nothing on the column or the trans.

Only automatics had neutral safety switches, the clutch should always be depressed when starting, 1,it takes the load off the starter spinning the transmission gears and engine at the same time, 2, your left leg becomes your safety switch. Most new cars you have to press the clutch in to start, so it all comes from the earlier days of starting procedures.

Not hard to rig up, if you really want one. Set up a switch similar to the brake light switch on the clutch pedal. Run the starter wire through it.
I'm not sure if it was available on manual-equipped trucks, but cruise control would have had an interrupt switch on the clutch pedal. |
