Building a new shop - pre-fab steel building
After far more time than I had ever hoped, I'm finally getting ready to build a new shop. Just as soon as the town finishes my paperwork
Anyways, details: 32'x52'x12' eaves with a 52'x'12' free span carport behind. It'll be over a slab, of course. The first bay is going to be built out as a full bath, utility room (for HVAC, air compressor, etc), and then an "office" - which will mostly be a clean work space for electrical, manuals, and so on. And then above that, enclosed / dehumidified storage for parts! In the process of all of this, I ended up picking up this little guy on the local craigslist: Which was fortuitous, because I ended up needing it to unload! 14,625lbs according to the bill of lading. Anyways, the building itself arrived in kit form Thursday. I purchased the whole assembly, including sheathing, doors, insulation and hardware, from Kentucky Steel Buildings, out of (surprise) Winchester, Kentucky. Stay tuned, hoping to have the permits all sorted out this week and concrete going in sometime this month

Looks like fun! Subscribing. I will be building a shop in the next couple of years. Are you putting in heat and if so what kind? Have you looked at floor heat? Power is so cheap in WA where we are moving to that I am considering that. All electric out where we are but only 2.7 cents per KW.

As of right now, I'm planning to do a heat pump set up, that way I can heat in the winter and cool in the summer. The temperatures here aren't too extreme so that setup works pretty well. My last shop, up in New England, was strictly propane, and that's been a pretty good deal for the area.

Re: Building a new shop - pre-fab steel building
We need to get a local group together. Seems like several of us are here from Williamsburg to the beach. I am in Gloucester County. I will be following along. I need to get some more floor space.

Re: Building a new shop - pre-fab steel building
That's the plan! I've got a whole bunch of guys interested in helping out to see how this thing goes together. I'm thinking it won't take too long to build the shell, the finishing, well we'll see

Re: Building a new shop - pre-fab steel building
Cool package. You will love the rool up doora as opposed to the garage type door. Pick up an electric operator for at least one door, you won't regret it. I have them on all 3 of mine.

Re: Building a new shop - pre-fab steel building
Few more shots. Service entrance conduits for water, electric, data and an air supply up to the house. Also, plumbing for the bath and service sink. Just got plumbing inspection approval this week, expecting to pour the rest of the slab this coming week, weather cooperating. Good to be making progress!!

That will be a great shop. Clear span gives you lots of options.

Do yourself a favour and put a concrete sealer on right away. Makes garage cleanup much easier

That will be awesome and the concrete is looking great! That structure should go up pretty fast. Good luck with it. The weather always has a way of slowing these projects down.
