Question for the swapped crossmember trucks

I swapped an 87 C10 crossmember in my 61 project.

The 87 had a 305 and Ac in it when I pulled it

I have the engine, and a good portion of the frontend and accessories on it.

It sits a bit high, actually higher than it did with the torsion bar front.

My question is, are different springs being installed? cut a coil? to get to a normal ride height. Dropped spindles would get it down some.

Re: Question for the swapped crossmember trucks

When I swapped to an 85 front crossmember I used drop spindles, and reinstalled my 3 in drop springs that I had on the stock crossmember. Could your height differences be that the springs haven't settled, due to not having weight on them in awhile?

Re: Question for the swapped crossmember trucks

You are missing several 100 pounds off the front still and I would get it all together and drive it some before making changes. It will settle a good bit from where it is now

Re: Question for the swapped crossmember trucks

The truck may settle some but I don't think it would be more then another inch from the photo. If you like the stock ride height, then leave it. If you want it lower so that the bottom of the fender opening is about level with the top of the tire, you will need to do a drop spindle.

Yes, you could cut the coil like we use to do in the old days before drop spindles, but why deteriorate the quality of the ride?

Nice truck!
