no cross member under manual transmission
I have a 1971 c10 short bed I bought about a year ago. I had the tranny taken off because of oil leaks that I wanted to take care of. Turns out the tranny has nothing supporting it other than the e-brake cables that run under it.
It is supposed to have one, correct? Would I have to custom make one or are there cross members pre made for this application? Thanks for the help. |

Re: no cross member under manual transmission
No crossmember from the factory and not needed in stock form. Chevy did that to other older model cars too.

Thanks for the reply.
I thought I had mentioned this in the first post, but does it matter if its a muncie and the case is aluminum? I've driven it about 5k miles this way with no problems that I can think of caused by. |

I thought you were talking about the stock cast iron 3spd or 4spd, those take a lot of abuse and never seen a problem with them just hanging from the cast iron bellhousing. |

The M21's don't need a rear mount either. I ran one in my '67 Short stepside for a number of years with a bell housing mount. If you are going to put a rear cross member mount in it you should remove the bell housing mount. 3 point mounting is not recommended.... LockDoc
