Rear disc brake conversion

What is the best way to convert my 81 c10 to rear disc brakes? There are a lot of kits out there and they aren't cheap.. I'm willing to spend some money but don't need the most expensive kit. There used to be a couple reasonable priced kits out there but I can't find them now. Any and all help appreciated. Also... what all is needed? Brake lines for rear disc? Proportioning valve? Etc....

kinda wonder if theres a newer axle swap, like find a entire disc brake axle off a newer truck that would have the same gears and set up.

when i did my rear disc swap on my 86 k30 with the 14 bolt i had to change my master cylinder to one off a truck that had 4 wheel discs. it did stop with the factory master but always felt like i was pulling a 2000lb trailer.

Well if you search the forum you will find a member that makes brackets to use d52 calipers an astro van rotors.....

Find captain fab on this board. I am installing his camero rear disc setup on a truck now and I will have approx 300 in the whole Shaba game using used calipers that I am rebuilding myself along with powder coating everything. The brackets he has are beautiful and fit perfect and tight and I am retaining a emergency brake unlike most kits. Captain fab was great to buy from

I've decided to go with Wilwood D52 calipers......... I've already ordered the rear brake kit from them ans will do the fronts later. Currently my 81 short box is a freshly power coated frame so I'm going to complete the rear first then move to the front. I personally like the looks of the Wilwoods so that's why I'm going that route.

I went with the camero calipers for parts availability. Here in a few weeks the truck is being shipped to South Carolina as a gift and the guy that is receiving it needs ease of parts availability. I also made the decision to have a working e-brake. I have a buddy that is doing the d52 kit but is not ready to order yet he wants the larger pad area and the will wood calipers the d52 kit uses astro van rotors.

There re very distinct differences in the kits but look for captainfab and look at both threads and then decide on a kit

Look up Capt Fab. He sells brackets that the Wilwood D52s mount to in the rear. No E brake provisions on that kit though.

OK so I found his kit. Looks like by the time you buy his bracket kit then the rest of the wilwood parts you're about the same price as the complete wilwood kit?
