SWB Highlander rescue!

I was searching through a FB truck parts group and saw a 72 A/C cab for sale. While looking through the pictures, I noticed a Highlander plaid seat laying on the ground. The guy had started dismantling the truck and was just selling the bare cab. After taking a closer look at the pics, I recognized the truck from the "Do you have a plaid truck" forum. I called the guy and asked his plans for the truck. He was going to sell the cab and use the swb frame on a 1969 project. I informed him that this was a special edition truck and it really needed to stay together. After some persuading, negotiating and some trading, I got her! No motor and the P.O. kept the tilt column. She's now stored in the dry and will hopefully be back to her original condition some day.

Re: SWB Highlander rescue!

I'm curious, the SPID doesn't call out special promotion. It has the plaid seat called out, is that why its considered a Highlander?

I wondered the same thing, but I also know some things were not always placed on the spid consistently. So what officially makes a highlander ?

Re: SWB Highlander rescue!

Not all Highlanders had the Packages. My truck is the same way, has the Highlander seat but no package. Even if you didn't get a Package Highlander truck the parchment door panels seat belt retractor holders and sun visors were always parchment. Also the the dash pad and steering column were black and black carpet was included. Post # 38 in SSTim's "Do you have a Plaid Pickup" thread explains the different packages etc. on the Highlanders. The link is below.

Re: SWB Highlander rescue!

Sorry to hijack this thread,
Call me lazy ...but I'm going to ask without searching the posts!
Why does the rear axle favor the front of the inner fender? It's just not centered!!
I've noticed this on other trucks but just failed to ask the question!

Re: SWB Highlander rescue!

I have actually never seen an Atlanta truck with the Special Promotion Group called out on the SPID. I would love to see one, though, if anybody has one. Great save, JQ. There are still lots of neat tricks out there!

Re: SWB Highlander rescue!

It's still up for debate, but I don't think Atlanta ever put "special promotional" on the SPID like some of the other plants did. This truck has all the options a "C" package would. See thread below.
