Which gas cap is correct??

I was looking for an original gas cap on my 69 custom but I've two different type caps with the same part number. Which one is correct or are both correct depending on some arbitrary assembly line supply house?

Here's the two I'm looking at, while the first has a smooth face the second has an indented ring in the center:

Both appear to be the correct number but look very different.

My '69 CST 3/4 ton (made Dec., 1968) has always had the smooth vented dome style (in stainless since it's a CST).

Come on guys help me out here, same part number, on a 69 custom which one is right or are they both right?? Photos stolen from a couple for sale:

The lower one is correct and original, the ones without the round indentation are later replacements.

You could also ask someone to look up the original part number and the replacement part numbers, lots of member have the GM parts books.

As I stated in post 2, my 69 had a smooth domed stainless cap since the truck was new. I'm certain because I'm the original owner. Perhaps the painted ones were the other style or perhaps they used both types depending on the plant or different suppliers. Stainless was used on the higher trim levels. Painted was used on the base trim levels.

I bought our 1970 C-10 this past May from the original owner. The truck is still in it's original paint. The gas cap is the lower style (with the ring stamped into it) shown above and is also painted with the same original paint. I hope this helps.
