Re: What engine is this?
Well so does that mean the block is in that time frame also? Is there numbers for the block somewhere? The truck is a 51

Re: What engine is this?
The code you gave is for the head (good head by the way- high compression)
The engine code will be to the right of the distributor, and the date code will be to the left. The date code will look something like this: C103 C= March (third month), the 10= day, and the 3= 1953 |

Re: What engine is this?
So does the D 15 0 mean the engine would be April 15 1960 since the head is from that time frame?

Re: What engine is this?
I think that would be a good guess on the date. I bet someone swapped in a later 235 to replace a worn out 216.

Re: What engine is this?
Well I guess that is good it is a 51 3600. Did they put the 216 in those trucks?

Photos are worth a thousand words. Meaning that some of us can ID engines or other piece with photos reasonably easily.
Check this link, it has the head and block casting numbers for most all Chevy sixes. http://1954advance-design.com/Stoveb...g-numbers.html

Re: What engine is this?
That's the stamp code they started using around '55-'56 I think. Made at Flint on April 16 of whatever year the motor is, and I believe A is a passenger car 235 application code.
