Incorrect wheel hub
Need some help here. Switching to discs on my 70 k10. Truck came with the parts uninstalled so now im installing them since one of the drum hubs is done. Problem I found with one of the new hubs is the stud holes were drilled to large at some point on one hub, so i cant get engagement when i press the studs in . I went to the local auto yard and they had a 76 blazer hub that supposedly is interchangeable that lookd exactly the same so I bought it. I got the races out of my damaged one and found the inner race to have a smaller OD than the blazer hub, and it has a lip so it doesn't press in as far on my damaged hub. First and third pics are damaged hub, second and fourth are 76 blazer hub.
Do you think my hub is not a 71-77 or is this blazer hub not really a 76? If nothing else is there a way to fix my stud holes? |

Re: Incorrect wheel hub
just a fyi : make sure your swapping knuckle out . last I recall the drum brake knuckles wont take a disk brake setup with stock parts . the knuckle is cast different .

Re: Incorrect wheel hub
looks like you have a 77 or newer hub that has a bigger inner bearing. takes a newer spindle also. is your axle a closed knuckle?

Re: Incorrect wheel hub
Go back to the junkyard and get the rest of the axle for the 76 hub. Bolt it in and drive away! Fix your lug holes? No, but you could get bigger studs with a proper fitting knurl, and have miss matched lugs front and back. Getting discs on a 1970 open knuckle drum axle is generally not worth it. I think if you keep the knuckles you have to machine the rotors, who want's to do that every time you need rotors. Anyhow, the generally accepted method to convert the 70 open knuckle drum axle is to take it out and toss it. That's how I did mine. I took out the ring an pinion, it was the only thing on the axle worth keeping, IMO.
Good luck. Let us know how it goes and what parts you used to make the conversion work! I bet by the time you chase down parts you could have already had a junkyard axle rebuilt and installed!
