Maybe not, depending on what vortec.
Might need a different flexplate/flywheel and maybe fuel pump (electric).
Plus intake too.

For a GM 12530283 or GM 12530282 you will need a vortec intake, electric fuel pump, flexplate for one piece rear main seal, and melonized gear for your distributor.

Re: getting a crate engine

I think for trucks you'd want more like a 250/275hp engine that makes a lot of torque - the higher horsepower motors trade off a lot of low end torque and that's precisely what makes these trucks more fun to drive.

I'd look to maximize your power down around 2000-3000 RPM, which is where you drive. It's a nice feeling knowing the dyno sheet crests 350 up around 6000rpm, but you never get to use it, and you give up a lot for it, I think. To each their own though!

GM added the mechanical fuel pump boss back to the big blocks, like the ZZ502. I'm surprised they haven't put it back on the small block castings yet... or have they?

It's not the cheapest, but the best one I can think of would be the one made for trucks - the HT (High Torque) 383 roller cam edition:

...and it shows it with a blockoff plate on the fuel pump boss.

Looks like a GM 12530283 short block With GM 12530282 062 heads and a .473 lift cam. You could use either GM vortec crate engine and swap the cam and have the same performance.
I admit I like the idea but for everyday driving in these 4000lb trucks I prefer the stock cam. You should have at least 300 hp with the stock cam and that's a lot more than these trucks came from the factory with.
