These are just some of the problem areas, that need to be cut out and repaired! Till next time.. Mark

Re: Barger's 79 FJ40
Sorry Guy's I had said it was a 79 and it is a 78!
Another kinda cool thing I found out yesterday. come to find out this FJ40 was built in 2/78 and the other FJ I finished (Reed's) was built in 4/78 both at Plant A11 and were only 7100 units apart and were shipped overseas to the U.S. and somehow ended up in West Plains Missouri and found there way to this shop!! Re: Barger's 79 FJ40
Thank's again Kees!
This will be a bit of a challenge, more so with the wiring. The reason I say this is because it will be rewired with all new kit but still using the stock plugs, connectors etc. Mark

Re: Barger's 79 FJ40
Hey Guy's
Not a lot to report lately, just been doing disassembly and bagging and tagging. I have been taking a ton of pictures but they are the usual ones of taking things apart. (nothing to interesting) I will however get some up as the Tub (body) is ready to come off. Mark

Re: Barger's 79 FJ40
The rust repairs on this one look like a piece of cake for you after that orange Bronco, LOL. I don't ever plan on owning one of these (Bronco either) but I enjoyed that one so I'm looking forward to following along on this one.

Tagging along. That body does look really solid so hopefully not too many panels to repair.

Re: Barger's 79 FJ40
Thank's Doug, I really didn't have much of a choice to build this cart for a few reasons...
#1. The size of this thing #2. The major weight of it #3. The convenience of being able to move it around Mark

Re: Barger's 79 FJ40
So after removing the last remaining items from the chassis to have it ready for blasting I wanted to tackle the steering box.
Pic #1. Box on the frame was really loose and had a Ton of play in it and had some "clunking" going on. I figured it was all torn up so I removed it to take a look. Pic #2. The front and side plates removed, revealed NO fluid inside the box! Pic #3. After close inspection it looked pretty good,no scarring or worn parts. Pic #4. worm gear and sector looked in good shape, just some crusty stuff. So in the end I replaced some seals and reassembled it and did my fine tuning to it and it is Right & Tight! No clunking and all the slack is now out of the box! Mark

Update:
Pic #1. I took the frame to have it sandblasted yesterday. Pic #2. They did a Super nice job on the blasting. Will get the frame in primer and rust encapsulator next followed by chassis black. Mark.

Re: Barger's 79 FJ40
Haven't looked here for a while.
This one looks better as the the other one, body is pretty solid? Nice if everything works along, take it apart, check it, few new parts and seals and of it goes!!! But I'm sure that isn't always the part Nice work so far Mark!!

Yeah Not always the case Kees!
They have already been ordering a ton of parts needed for it and I just need to find the extra time to really get after it. Mark
