Chrome mirror supports -

Did these camper trucks ever come with chrome support bars ? The dimensions seem a little different than my chrome Suburban ones.

My 70 had chrome supports. All rusted now. I've switched to the sport mirrors.

Yes. Actually all pieces except the elbows are stainless. Posts 13 and 14 in this thread may help.

Thanks for the speedy response ! If I wanted to post in "wanted to by" , what would I call them? Is anyone making repros ?

The stainless version was option code DG4. The painted version was option code D29. The literature and most SPIDs called them below eye line mirrors. They were first used on '69s and were listed on the SPIDs as west coast juniors, which, in reality, is a misnomer.

From what I've read, the repros are less than desirable and may not match the factory holes.

Questions for you guys:

How do you distinguish between the original DG4's and the after market tow mirrors?
Any stampings/part # on them?

I have a set of stainless mirrors identical to the ones on the blue truck posted.
I want to say they are aftermarket because of their great condition.

Do the originals have a different back side shape and acorn nuts mounted to the arms? Mine, like the mirrors posted, don't have the acorn nuts.
I will try to get a better photo them later.

Yours look aftermarket, but a close-up would help. If the top brace to the door is a flat strap as it appears, they are aftermarket. You can also compare the screw spacing on yours to the picture in my post above. The mirror heads on yours also look questionable. While some factory mirror heads (such as my originals) had the mounting brackets offset vertically from center, most were centered. The stamping on the head stainless may also vary from original. The originals used acorn nuts attached to studs on the elbows. However, the acorn nuts rusted to the studs and could snap off when someone tried to remove or tighten the nuts. Most replacement elbows from later trucks were tapped for bolts.

Your look original but close up will tell.
Later model DG 4 mirrors are not the same as 69-70? Not sure of the change year but like most things is probably 69-70 series and then 71-2 series. The later arms on bottom 2 points are shorter and the upper mount is just below the glass.
Factory mirror heads are stainless with small round rivets.

72s were different. Refer to the link in post 3. It has pictures of the 72 style also.

Yes, my top arm bracket is a flat bar....so as I assumed, they are indeed aftermarket mirrors. Strike one!
I see what you mean about how the mirror head is center mounted to the arm.
Mine are mounted above center and higher. Strike two
Strike three: Mine are in beautiful condition
