keyparts, triplus, auto metal direct?

keyparts, triplus, auto metal direct. Fenders...are they all the same? I know the fender thing has been bashed a million times. I want to buy new fenders if, at least I use them for patch panels, if they don't fit very well. Are the new keyparts "zinc" gm cert parts better than the amd triplus fenders? AMD prices seem to be a little better, but they don't claim the zinc primer etc. But, they have told me that they are triplus fenders.

TriPlus = Make
KeyParts = Distributor
AMD = Reseller

Re: keyparts, triplus, auto metal direct?

I was hoping to use the bottom cups and bottom rears to patch my gm fenders. Mine aren't horrible but the cup and inner cup passenger is bad and drivers side has rust at very bottom front and back.

I have a tri-plus fender, haven't mounted it yet but can tell the point on the top where the grill mounts is wrong, have you tried to hammer it back to make the grill fit?

It was way to far off to "hammer" it back. The entire nose is wrong.......The point is in the right location, its the detail line down the side that is set back to far by aprox 3/8". Drivers side fitment is the same......3 Different trucks, 3 different grills, and 3 different core supports.....all fit the same........

I reached out to my supplier and also a few others that buy, sell and install these with little response......

Yeah they all say guaranteed to fit. But I don't see anyone saying . You buy these and they don't fit, we will pay return shipping and fully refund.

Buy it from summit and they will refund you shipping and the fender, no questions asked.

I have to modify the summit answer...they took back a bumper that was free shipping, don't know their policy on truck freight and the fender from them has a freight charge.

I have not seen any problem with mine on my 68, I had them all mounted up at one time.

Re: keyparts, triplus, auto metal direct?

Nothing ever seems to line up when it comes to aftermarket patch panels. I just purchased a lower inner door bottom patch repair panel for my 72 and the factory crease along the inner does not match the new panel. Being that the panel is about 18 gauge, i dont have the proper tools to make the bead and doesnt make sense picking a bead roller from eastwood for one door. decided to add some quick pics, i laid down the new panel and then the old panel on top to show how bad the new panel is. it's not even close to replicating the bead from factory. I called Sherman, AMD, and some other places and yes looks like triplus keypart are the only ones that makes panels. stuck with his project now. AMD was kind enough to refund me the money on this hacked up panel, so i give them that at least.

Yes, the door inners absolutely suck. They are not even close, I used the part of the patch I needed and hammered and dollied it into the shape I needed.

I know the aftermarket right side 67 fender I have is off on the top front radius where it curves down toward the headlight. Original fenders have three stamped triangles on the inside in this area and aftermarket are just crimped. I was going to use it but decided to repair a decent original fender. They are good to use as repair panels to fix an original fender though. Aftermarket doors don't fit good either. I'm working on my second truck in this style and have found that OEM is the way to go for anything that is better than a %100 work beater.

Any before and after pics? i am just about to sell that door as i dont have the tools really to get that panel to match up with the original door crease. Cant locate a clean door in the east coast either.

I dont right now but I can get a couple for you later on. Good luck finding a clean door on the upper eastern coast. If you are not in a hurry they have the truck nats in August at Carlisle. There is a guy who comes from out west with a lot of rust free truck parts. But they are not cheap

Re: keyparts, triplus, auto metal direct?

Yeah, even the patches suck.

I had to open this one up on both sides to keep the fender curves correct:

It was a ton of extra work but worth the effort.

As mentioned above, the inner door bottoms are garbage. They look the same now as they did 16 years ago.

They were so awful. I only used the lower inner corners and one curved section. They lower corners were OK because I shaved them down until they fit, but the curved section I cut out I might as well have started with a flat piece of steel it was so far off.

This was my first door repair. It would have been SOOOOOOOOOOOO much easier if the damn thing was correct and I could have welded it in in one piece.

Re: keyparts, triplus, auto metal direct?

These are old pics, but you CAN get a really good fit on the doors/fenders. I did have to rework the window frames a bit, but other than opening up a bunch of holes and using lots of shims, there was no cut/welding

This is my 67 with Goodmark (Tri-Plus) doors/fenders.

So why am I going back to GM stuff on my truck? I never could get the hood to look as good as it did with the factory fenders... it's almost like the aftermarket fenders are 1/8" "too short" at the top where they curve around. It looks good, but not as good as it could. The doors are flimsy as crap. Like really flimsy. The doors were improved the past couple of years with much thicker metal, but I've read complaints where the fit has now gone down with the thicker doors.

Looks really good. the door gaps are very uniform. When are you converting it back to GM stuff?

When I ever find time. I finally finished my home remodel, now starting a 30x50 shop for my toys. Oh, and I picked up a 68 Firebird that doesn't run... the C10 is in one piece and runs, it's hard to take her back apart.
